Is your company planning any big tech upgrades in 2007? If the answer is no, you're not alone. Tech spending is still headed upward but at its slowest rate of increase in years: A mere 5 percent growth vs. 13 percent in 2004.
What's the problem? With Vista coming out you might expect 2007 to be a banner year for tech, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Turns out the overall softening economy (heck, didn't we just get out of a recession?) is sending budgets downward.
There are not many additional details in this New York Times story, but there are several pretty graphs. Most notable: Software purchases will be impacted the least by the spending slowdown—hey, there's hope for Vista yet!—while communications equipment (phones, networking devices) will likely be hit the worst.
Is your business gearing up to make big tech purchases next year, or are you battening down the hatches? What are you spending your IT budget on in 2007?
