For the first time in four years, T-Mobile is not at the top of J.D. Power's survey on wireless carrier customer service satisfaction. The bragging rights for 2008 now go to Verizon.
The rankings concern how well and how quickly carriers resolve customer service calls, not the quality of phone service. (So all those complaints about dropped calls and poor coverage don't apply here.)
J.D. Power's ranking system this year gives Verizon 103 points, mini-major Alltel a 102 score, and T-Mobile close behind with 100. AT&T earned a 97 rating and perennial laggard Sprint Nextel got a 79. (The minimum score you can get is a 70.)
Putting aside Sprint's sad, last-place finish, what's going on here? Is Verizon getting better, T-Mobile getting worse, or everyone simply getting better at dealing with customer service issues? It's probably not the latter: J.D. Power notes that due to the increasing complexity of wireless handsets, the average customer now spends longer on the phone making support calls than ever before. Longer calls mean longer waits for help: The average customer will spend 4.4 minutes on hold with his wireless carrier each year, up a third since 2003, and about half of all customers will have to call for help at some point.
If there's overall good news on the service front, it involves the number of calls it takes to resolve issues: Last year the average was 1.91 calls required to take care of a customer problem, but this year that number has plummeted to 1.76 calls per issue. Keeping customers from having to call you for help at all may be best, but keeping them from having to call back is pretty good, too.

I would live without a cell phone before I would deal with Sprint! Poor coverage and the worst customer service and tech support. After two weeks, I went back to Cingular/AT&T and am very pleased. I like having the roll over minutes for my business peak months.
Yes...Cingular is the best...why is it not on here? They have the best coverage, the best phones, rollover minutes, and a lot more. Only bad thing is their customer service in stores is not so good. I am with Verizon now and just got a brand new phone because of some small reason that I had, and they could have fixed it but just gave me a new phone instead....BUT Verizon has dropped calls out the Ho Ha! I get like one or 2 every few days.
Sprint is the worst. Switch to AT & T after 10 yrs with Sprint. AT&T customer service is fine. But their covrage same as Sprint. Verizon is the best.
I'm shocked. Verizon's customer service was so bad I switched to T-Mobile, and never had to wait for service again.
since nextel has been taken over by sprint thier customer service to be frank is piss poor this comes from a corporate user and they should be ashamed of thier new company customer service with these guy sucks!!!!!!!!!!
I REALLY DON"T UNDERSTAND THIS!!!!!!! I purchased a set of new phones with this company on by logging into MY ACCOUNT with them, I then used a credit card in my husbands name, which made this company apparently think they had the right to create a NEW account in which we fought and fought to figure it all out, and in the end... all they could do is show me UPS signature I signed for and still, continued to fight me on 2 disconnection fees for numbers I still used, with the new phones, and charged me 175.00 each for 2 numbers that never had a placed phone call on them. THEY APPARENTLY DIDN'T ASK UNSATISFIED PEOPLE ABOUT VERIZON!!
I agree, Verizon has great service, I've admittedly had a few problems but they've all be quickly, happily, and freely fixed. I've had Cingular in the past and found many problems with the service and am glad to hear that they did not get the top spot.
Verizon sucks. I got their service on 2 phones and a wireless card. I had to return 2 of the phones because they said it was a hardware issue. That was crap. They later tried to get me to pay for one of the phones. I had to call their main offices to complain until they resolved the issue. Guess how they resolved it...hmmm...well they finally admitted it was a system error on their end. They didn't want to credit my account for the days I had no service. Verizon Sucks!!!!!
I have AT&T and it ROCKS!!!!!! My dad has Verizon and i dont know if its the phone or the company but something is wrong because ot takes forever to send a txt message and half the time it fails!!!! So I dont know why Verizon is the best in my opion AT&T is off the charts!!!!! Plus AT&T has the most coverage plans and just about all my friends and family members have AT&T!!!! like I said be4 AT&T is the BOMB ROCKS IS OFF THE CHARTS AND IS TOATTLY A-W-S-O-M-E I repeat AT&T is A-W-S-O-M-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is all for this message thank you for reading it and have an awsome day/night!!!
Kimbere1975 - I've never even heard of US Cellular, so there you go...it must not be that big, or great.
I think U.S. Cellular is the best. How come it was'nt mentioned? Have had it for years, costumer service is excellent. We have 3 phones with unlimited texting, free evening and weekend minutes for $ 119 a month
This is about as useful as a survey on the best run government agency. They are all horrible compared to their European counterparts.
i love verizon they have always kept me in the loop lol....and they have like the chapedt plans even for pre paid
I have had Sprint for almost two years. Their customer service is terrible. I can't wait until my contract is over.
METRO PCS IS THE BEST AND WILL SOON PASS VERISON AND ANY OTHER COMPANY. EVERYTHING IS UNLIMITED (TEXTS, MINUTES, AND INTERENT). I ONLY PAY $53.08 EVERY MONTH. IT IS A COMPANY THAT MANY DON'T KNOW ABOUT. IT WAS ON CNN SUNDAY AUGUST 17, 2009 THAT METRO PCS WILL ALLOW CUSTOMERS WHOS CONTRACT ARE OVER WITH OTHER COMPANIES TO COME TO METRO PCS WITH THEIR SAME PHONE. THEY ARE ABOUT TO RACK UP BELIEVE ME! IM A PREMED STUDENT AND I LOVE MY KEYBOARD FLIP PHONE BY KYOCERA.
What goes overseas with you Not Verizon, so I hear...
All I have to say is SPRINT SUCKS! Their score should be blow 70!!! Rahhhhh!
Verizon has a great commercial where the guy walks around and asks "....can you hear me now?" This is what I do everyday with Verizon with everyone whether they have Verizon or not. If it were not for so many friends and family coerced to be on their system, I would go back to ATT. I personally think that Verizon has garbage service and Customer Service has never resolved their dropped calls.
sprint it's the best with the unlimited everything for 100.00 a month
