For the first time in four years, T-Mobile is not at the top of J.D. Power's survey on wireless carrier customer service satisfaction. The bragging rights for 2008 now go to Verizon.
The rankings concern how well and how quickly carriers resolve customer service calls, not the quality of phone service. (So all those complaints about dropped calls and poor coverage don't apply here.)
J.D. Power's ranking system this year gives Verizon 103 points, mini-major Alltel a 102 score, and T-Mobile close behind with 100. AT&T earned a 97 rating and perennial laggard Sprint Nextel got a 79. (The minimum score you can get is a 70.)
Putting aside Sprint's sad, last-place finish, what's going on here? Is Verizon getting better, T-Mobile getting worse, or everyone simply getting better at dealing with customer service issues? It's probably not the latter: J.D. Power notes that due to the increasing complexity of wireless handsets, the average customer now spends longer on the phone making support calls than ever before. Longer calls mean longer waits for help: The average customer will spend 4.4 minutes on hold with his wireless carrier each year, up a third since 2003, and about half of all customers will have to call for help at some point.
If there's overall good news on the service front, it involves the number of calls it takes to resolve issues: Last year the average was 1.91 calls required to take care of a customer problem, but this year that number has plummeted to 1.76 calls per issue. Keeping customers from having to call you for help at all may be best, but keeping them from having to call back is pretty good, too.

TMobile is the best. I had Verizon and it didn't work at my house. Their explanation was that "their phones are not guaranteed to work indoors." They suck.
You have got to be kidding! Verizon? Is that because Californians use it? Is Verizon the politically correct mobile company? When my friends daughter is visiting from LA her Verizon phone isn't so great. I've had Sprint service with fammily on my plan for over 10 years. My phones a easy to use and FUN (I'm 53 and who'd ever have thought I'd love wireless the way that I do). Also my broadband access is unlimited. My disability makes this internet service indispensible. I have had excellent help from service personal both on a just to pay my bill up to advanced service for equipment. AND you don't need to go through 15 people to get the service you want. I'm still voting for my Sprint as number one.
Sprint has gotten awful since they merged with Nextel. The coverage sucks now. Where I had service before, I drop calls like hotcakes now.
AT&T (Cingular) Blows. There are dead zones all over Pinellas County (Clearwater). I have to go outside my house just to get 1 bar. The reception was just fine before AT&T took over Cingular. They must have shut down some towers to save some money. Customer service is lip service, they must have hired people through United Way.
I can't believe at&t gets such a good score they are the worst company I have ever dealt with. Years back when Worldcom went under at&t was supposed to honor Worldcom accounts, when I went to set up with them they asked for a 200.00 dollar deposit even though I had always paid my bill on time. Needless to say I told them where they could stuff it and went with sprint. Due to at&t's poor service I will never use them and will discourage everyone from using them for the rest of my days.
in my area Verizon sucks. I have given it a try and lost my calls and there were hidden charges. U.S.Cellular is the best. I am currently having trouble with harrassing phone calls and they getting them stopped. U.S. Cellular rocks. I love them and I don't understand why they aren't on here
I have sprint and they are horrible !! Customer service is terrible. They never keep there stories straight and have horrible communication between one another one department never knows whats going on in any other. HATE EM
I have Verizon and as far as covering "dead zones", it's bs. My couch is a dead zone. Some day ND will have coverage...
Been with Cingular, now AT&T for a few years and I'm completely happy with them. Not only for their great customer service, but for their service plan as well. Rollover minutes RULE!
Tracfone SUCKS!!!
Ive had SPRINT for more than 10 years and I LOVE IT!!! they have good service and now that theyve switched their focus to all about the customer its even better! they go over and beyond to assist our needs and there internet is just as fast as the dsl i had with verizon and i can take it everywhere!
I have both Cingular and Verizon... Verizon really sucks...
has any of you verizon cell users tried to mahe a phone call in the mountains? sprint is where it is at,i dont get dropped calls or loose signals, when i am in the mountains of pa. my sister has verizon she has to go on top of a mountain to get a signal and there plans are not that great.plus my sprint cell has worked perfectly for the 8 years i had my phone and still worked when i did a up-grade. i have friends and family that has had nothing but problems with verizon. service and quality and dependability is what is important , ask any sprint user. true, they dont have roll-over minutes yet, but they will. thumbs down to verizon.a heck yeah for sprint.you get what you pay for, sprint got it.
AT&T is the best!!! Verizon Sucks!!! They have crappy service and you pay more money for smaller packages (minutes, texts etc...).
I have had the same number for over 12 years. With all the technology that is supposed to be held by these co.s The numder is on all construction equipt. that I own and also the number with my transportation co. My # some how got in an automated fax list. altell has not been able to help in the last 2 yrs. My phone rings EVERY NIGHT 9PM TO 3AM. They suggest I get a new #. Cant block or find the origin. Whats up with that?????
What do people think about US Cellular?
My first service plan was with verizon and before my contract was up with them THEY changed my contract with me and told me there was nothing I could do...Well there was something I could do...I changed plans and I tell everyone I know what they did to me! Found out later they had a class action law suit againist them for that very reason I dropped them!
ATT/CINGULAR absolutely the worst!!!
I can tell you the problem with Sprint/Nextel, it started when Sprint took over Nextel. We had Nextel for years, then when Sprint got involved, we could hardly use our phones. We made a call about it and the customer service tech looked up our area, and he said 'well WHY did you buy Nextels before checking to see if you have coverage in your area???' I promptly told him that we'd had Nextel for YEARS and when we originally got our Nextels, we DID have coverage in our area!!! DUH! When our plan expired we switched to Alltel. Sprint lost so many customers because of their treatment of the Nextel users, and I don't think they really cared that much.

Have U.S. Cellular and it is great. I know they are much smaller than the " big three " ( sprint , verizon , At&t ) . Anytime I roam , U.S. Cellular uses Verizon network and it is all good for me so I have to say I have never had a problem with it. Sprint , on the other hand , is the worst cell phone company I have ever had.
