Obama likely to be forced to surrender his BlackBerry

And no, he's not getting an iPhone.

President-elect Barack Obama is rarely seen in public without his BlackBerry smart phone, but that's likely to change when he sits down at his desk in the Oval Office come January. And, says the New York Times, he's dreading that moment.

The first e-President is likely to become significantly less connected come January 20 for a variety of reasons. Naturally security is a concern, lest Obama be tricked into clicking on the wrong ad. But the bigger issue is now a legal one: As President, Obama's written correspondence will be subject to the Presidential Records Act, which will all ultimately become part of the official record and subject to review by the public.

The upshot: As tech-savvy as the new prez may be, things will be locked down considerably once he takes office. It's almost hard to believe, but it looks like he won't even be allowed a computer on his desk, much less the ability to idly chat with old friends and supporters via email. It's said that it's unlikely he'll even be allowed to read email on the computer: Presumably his correspondence will be printed out to him and handed over as a hard copy. How's that for progress?

As well, there is no word on how Obama will communicate with former Nigerian princes, nor how he will claim the millions of dollars they have to offer.

POLL: What do you think?

Wow, they're too lazy to secure their servers, yet they don't want thir president to 'weild' a blackberry. Amerykah really is a backwards nation.

Just look to the Mayorial scandal in Detroit over the past year...Text messages ended up being Kwame Kilpatrick's BIGGEST downfall

This all comes along with the job at hand. Just as some of us are careful of what we do in our personal time because it could have a huge effect on our jobs as well. The facebook, my space, ya'll know what im saying.

I thought Neanderthalers only appear in Geico commercials any more. What you are saying is that people, not elected to office, will control what the President is allowed to see and hear. As I said in my YouTube clip The Einstein Society: the absence of intellectual stimulus deriorates the IQ. The President elect may be especially vulnerable given the fact that he is the smartest office holder in over eight years. And as to the current one, his father himself said his dog Millie would have done better.

Just because President Bush doesn't know how to use modern day devices doesn't mean President elect Obama should have give up his. Give the man a computer and let him keep his Blackberry. There are tons of filtering programs and firewalls that can be utilized.

What we are all failing to think about is the little known practice of hypnotic pop-ups. This is a precautionary move to protect the president from becoming a zombie. Or worse hypnotized to believe he is George Bush or heaven forbid....Hillary Clinton on her cycle. I for one feel safer knowing President elect Obama will be without his Blackberry

i guess theres a contract for if you want to be a president read the fine print. (NO TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANTAGE,NO IDLE CHATTING maybe no sex in the oval office. a president basically is a person who gotta run the country old school style. so that means i can be smarter than the prez when it comes down to technology.lol

I think they are more worried about hackers and security in a sense of his location and his where abouts.

If they allow obama to use his blackberry think of the sales of blkberrys that will beat the iphone and if blk berry decides to make a mp3 i think ipod will fall into second place. Obama already turning heads in the white house lol you cant tell a blk man what he cant do or use let him use the blk berry and stop being pnoid lol

For sure, being "president" could as well be termed "imprisonment". This is taking security a little too far- Give me a break.

it would seem that as president he would access email through a secure network and be safr from the pitfalls we have to deal with. I agree, he needs the instant comunication, let him have a secure form of blackbery and email
