And no, he's not getting an iPhone.
President-elect Barack Obama is rarely seen in public without his BlackBerry smart phone, but that's likely to change when he sits down at his desk in the Oval Office come January. And, says the New York Times, he's dreading that moment.
The first e-President is likely to become significantly less connected come January 20 for a variety of reasons. Naturally security is a concern, lest Obama be tricked into clicking on the wrong ad. But the bigger issue is now a legal one: As President, Obama's written correspondence will be subject to the Presidential Records Act, which will all ultimately become part of the official record and subject to review by the public.
The upshot: As tech-savvy as the new prez may be, things will be locked down considerably once he takes office. It's almost hard to believe, but it looks like he won't even be allowed a computer on his desk, much less the ability to idly chat with old friends and supporters via email. It's said that it's unlikely he'll even be allowed to read email on the computer: Presumably his correspondence will be printed out to him and handed over as a hard copy. How's that for progress?
As well, there is no word on how Obama will communicate with former Nigerian princes, nor how he will claim the millions of dollars they have to offer.

I hope that rules will be changed while Obama is in office! What insanity the bush admin must have been operating under!! I would never accept all of my news from just one source!! that is sooo pre computer age! What is funny is that tech savy people that have learned to have all of their news from multiple sources zapped right to their mobile devices probably know more about what is going on in the world than our president!! Scary stuff
Get over your sad story....Obama is the 44th President of the USA....PERIOD!!!!!
Sorry, forgot the reason I was here.....I think he should be able to keep his Blackberry. He's smart enough to know how and when to use it!
let president have some personal space to do once in a while and i think president or anyone who need to have some space and i think some of u agree with that and also its today's modern technology too anyway i think !!!!!

I think thats odd because it's his phone, leave the man alone.
Fix a pipe at the back of PAYLIN. And every time She generates HOT AIR as always...She will move forward...From Paleolithic age to Neolithic age. And if she cools down...McCain Can heat Her Up again..He is Always Hot. So Is She. Shame she does not want to be a Newscaster. She could go up in a hot Air baloon with all her Hor air.
Let's see...The President can declare war on his own, but he won't be 'allowed' to use a computer? I'd like to know who won't allow it? Is Dick Cheney hiding under the desk?
How would you know who is the wrong President when you can not spell?
You know those of you out there that elected Obama President He was elected, you got what you wanted, now could we please go forward with out all of the Palin, McCain bashing? I hope Obama turns out to be an excellent President. I will respect and support him, but I am so tired of hearing STILL about how bad Palin and McCain are. Please, just enjoy the President you elected!
Well it all goes on the fact that computers can be bugged systematically, your blackberry can be also and for terrorist acts to be eliminated, use of technology has to be downsized. You don't want to turn your phone on and it blows you up now do you. Great for the big "O",and are we still on the whole wrong President, right President, I mean c'mon you must have an oil company or something. I do believe that the oil gods hated bush with a passion and they actually love Obamas' views on not just America but world peace, keep up with what's goin' on.
I agree completely with post number 4. This is a modern age. The office of the president needs to get with it. There are filtering programs he can use on his email to make sure a copy is saved of every email. Can he have personal email? At all? Ever? I would die if I couldn't email or facebook.
I don't agree we elected the wrong president. It is time for a change. Concerning the Auto industry. The unions are not the problem. Look at all of the execs that are receiving golden parachutes and huge bonuses. These are the people that made the wrong decisions in guiding the industry down the path of destruction.
instead of bailing out the automakers who have been screwing us for years on car prices, the White House needs to step their game up and get with the age...no computer? no crackberry? no email? all on paper....the forest called and wants the trees back....
America voted the right president! CHANGE is coming!
....well, it's not like it's an iphone or anything.
alexgannis...... the choice has already been made by the american people so stop your belly achin and turn your focus to more positive things... like something you can change!
he is the president he can do whatever he wants. its not like he is going to do anything bad
He could have a 24 hour Obama web site that posts all of his communications. That would be a transparent government. "Dude, I didn't say Bomb Iran - I said Bob-a-ran"

At the same time, technology is exploitable in ways that paper isn't. Until there is a foolproof way to make sure everything on a computer and the internet is secure, it's better to be safe than sorry. I sympathize with Obama, but his safety supercedes convenience.
