At long last our long national nightmare of having to put down the remote control and pick up a telephone to order a pizza has come to an end.
This week, Domino's hooks up with TiVo to make complicated button pressing and speech patterns a thing of the past: When TiVo users see an ad for the pizza chain on their TV they can now click a button that says "I Want It," which will let them order a pie on the spot. The system takes the hungry viewer to a screen that lets them specify crust, size, and toppings right on the television, as well as the address to which the pie should be delivered. (You can also find the service on demand under the "Music, Photos & More" menu, accessible from the main TiVo menu, in case the mood to eat a pizza strikes when a Domino's commercial is not airing.)
I just checked my TiVo box and the service is already live. It may take a day or two for all units to be upgraded. You do need to set up an account at Dominos.com one time in order to begin the ordering process, but otherwise the operation is a computer- and phone-free process.
The service is free if you've got an active TiVo account. Now get out there and TiVo yourself some pizza!
