If there's a recession going on, the gaming industry hasn't heard about it: Sales were up a whopping 60 percent in the third quarter vs. 2007. Why? Because there are so many great games out on the market right now. Here are some of the top recently-released titles that any gamer is sure to love -- presuming he hasn't snapped them all up already!
Fallout 3 (360, PS3, Windows) - The most immersive new game on the market today, you'll spend dozens of hours roaming a post-apocalyptic wilderness in search of your dad... and a way to get the planet back on track.
Mirror's Edge (360, PS3, Windows) - Innovative gameplay has you playing a courier, running from rooftop to rooftop in a Big Brother/cyberpunk universe. A refreshing change from the shoot-'em-ups that dominate the industry, it's addictive (and often maddening) fun.
Left 4 Dead (360, Windows) - A zombie game with a twist: There's four of you that have to survive, getting from point A to point B, and these zombies can run. The ones that vomit on you, though, those are the worst. Built for multiplayer carnage.
Gears of War 2 (360) - The Xbox exclusive continues the chainsawing adventures of Marcus Fenix as he punches underground, encountering all manner of disgusting stuff, all of which must be killed.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Wii, 360, PS2, PS3, DS, PSP) - Somewhat unfairly maligned, any Star Wars fanatic will love to get his mitts on this title to continue the story of the epic saga. Available for (literally) every console out there.
Saints Row 2 (360, PS3, Windows) - The poor man's Grand Theft Auto, it's got choppy graphics and a minimalistic story, but there's so much grossly inappropriate humor in this game that it's hard not to love it.
LittleBigPlanet (PS3) - Arguably the best reason to buy a PS3, this PlayStation exclusive is unbearably cute and jammed full of fun. Perfect for family play and for those who are just plain tired of killing stuff.

Hey jedimaster_gary 4 out of the 7 games mentioned are for Window's. Last time I checked that ran on the PC... all sarcasm aside, just wanted to mention that in case you overlooded that. I will say that they should have mentioned Call 0f Duty: World at WAR!
Simple fact of the matter is we GROWNUPS built the gaming industry it all started with us. Back in the day we made the first consoles very popular. And if it wasn't for us 30+ gamers there would be no industry.Sadly consoles have rejected us throwing out more garbage and increasing the price.Very seldom do you actually get an original game and when you do it's from a maker who is primarly making games for pc and goes cross platform. Than it gets spun off and sold in gobbs to a bunch of snotty nose kids who have no respect for games or there roots. We built this industry we can tear it apart,I've gone PC for the past 6 years they actually make great titles and quality games. Plus lets be honest the graphics are way better then any PS3 or Xbox 360. Look for Bioshock 2 coming out in 2009,Velvet Assasin and FEAR Origins.Right now go with Fallout,Guildwars and DeadSpace.
hmm I thought this was "grown up" stuff! I guess some adults still act like kids
How can you be tired of killing stuff????? I want a game with no actually story line, just mass carnage. No goals, just cool powers and weapons and endless enemies to kill and t-bag.
I have to disagree with that guy with the url for his name and Keith. The industry may have STARTED with 30+'s, but that was when you were in your teens and early 20s. And now most of you don't even buy/play games anymore. The industry's biggest market segment will ALWAYS be kids and teens. If 30+ gamers (not people who buy games, people who play them) stopped buying games, the industry would take a very small hit, hardly tearing it apart. I don't know if I'll still be gaming when I hit my 30s. And there are plenty of solid games for both the 360 & PS3. And Keith I think Gears of War 2 is awesome. I'd recommend it for people who don't have a problem with blood and gore.
i don't think that fallout 3 is really my kinda thing (im more of a call of duty kinda guy). mirrors edge became stale after a while. gears of war 2 doesn't impress me besides the amazing story. left 4 dead looks unbelievably amazing and is a must buy. afro samurai is coming out and looks cool. skate 2 looks nice. and far cry 2 is iffy, because it looks long and you need patience like in fallout.
Left out Call of Duty 5. While not as great as CoD4 (its hard to be that good anyway) its still a fantastic game.

I am in my late 50's and enjoy MUNCH. I'm new to playing and have the 3 HALO's but since I'm not that good on my 360, I'm looking for something more like Munch that I can handle for now. Any suggestions?
