Rhode Island to Become First Wireless State

Man, I'm all smug because I live in San Francisco, where every week I hear about how we're getting this awesome, free citywide wireless network. Then they say it may not be quite that free. I'm pretty certain it's not going to be truly citywide either, with a little pocket of no service around my house.

Well blow me over: Now there's a whole state getting ready to "go wireless." Sure, it's the smallest state in the country, Rhode Island, but blanketing 1,500 square miles with wireless service is no small feat. The pilot project is rolling out now in Providence, of course. No word on when poor New Shoreham island will get its hookup.

So, while I'm waiting for my city-provided Wi-Fi, I want to hear your stories. Any Providencians out there have access to the pilot project? How well does it work? (And how much is it going to cost?) Post your commentary here!

Well, I gotta tell you: if RodeIsland is going wireless, statewide, then Vermont can't be far behind! Thanks for the outlook and trend.

AT&T won't be happy with that attitude, I promise.

I want to know who is going to offer the wireless so that I can get on the pilot program. I just moved to RI from NY and I am switching my Nextel cell phones over and they said in March they are switching over to Sprint Nextel so if I wait to change my NY number to a RI number it will be easier I wonder if Sprint is going to be the carrier for the Wireless? Does Anyone know?

Um, she said she moved *TO* RI *FROM* NY. And clearly she was mistaken in her assumption, but it hardly warranted the disdainful way in which you referred to her. Have you never made a mistake, nor misunderstood something?

Actually, (s)he made plenty of mistakes. Take a look at that grammar, spelling, punktuation [sic], and writing style, and you find yourself doubting the credibility of anyone who can publicly present himself in such a way. I don't believe anything in that message. If a person is not smart enough to know the difference between "your" and "you're", then it's a safe bet that you're [sic] wireless knowledge ain't much gooder. (Do I need to type [sic] again?)
