Fish eats cell phone, still works after a week

I've lost cell phones before. Left on the plane. Foolishly put on top of the car while I was loading stuff in the trunk. But never have I had a phone swallowed by a fish.

The UK's Sun -- sure, not the most erudite paper, but reliable enough on matters of mobile phones swallowed by creatures of the sea -- reports that a local businessman lost his phone a week ago while lounging on the beach. He thought it gone for good, but some time later his girlfriend received a strange call from the phone... from a fisherman who said he'd found the handset in the belly of a 25 pound cod.

After cleaning up and drying out the handset -- a Nokia -- the man says it still works... though it obviously it's now on the smelly side. He is still using it today, although it eventually began acting up and he had to "get the circuit board changed in the end."

What's the takeaway from this fish tale? For starters, some cell phones are a lot tougher than you think. If the seal is good and a lot of moisture stays out of the inside of the case, there's a good chance that a phone will survive a drop in the ocean or a few days in the belly of a cod, at least for a while.

Of course, the second point almost goes without saying: Cod will eat anything.

Dropped your phone in the drink? Here's my handy guide on how to attempt to salvage it.

Wait until enough time as lapsed for the inside parts that got wet to rust. Reception might be less than great after that, indeed non existant. We've had a phone dropped in water, dried it out. retrieved the info, but then replaced it as we were told all the little parts inside will crode. Good luck!

....after reading this I grabbed my fishing pole, ran out to my lake and put my cell phone on the hook and then put the line in the water. Caught a 3 lb bass...it works!

well let me tell you my Samsung SlidePhone A737 (not sure of number here..) died completely from no known exposure to moisture. The "tab" had turned red and indicator of moisture exposure. Let me tell you, The most I ever did with that phone was take it into the bathroom with me! Needless to say the warranty was void and I was ticked! I guess Nokia is the way to go.

Daughter dropped hers in the toilet-we found it by calling it and following the ring tone. Still not several days in the belly of a fish, though. I dropped mine in the washer for about 3 seconds and fried it.

Where can I get a fish that works. All the fish I've hired have expired, usually before the first week is up.

Hey #2..........have you ever herd of the tide? Which rises and falls on an average of 6 to 7 feet every 12 hours, yeah that's twice a day! It's possible that the guy was sitting close to the water at low tide, lost his phone in the sand, and the tide came up and washed it out to sea. I work in a harbor building seawalls and boat docks, you'd be surprised what the tide can move, and how far it can move it, we're talkin about the ocean here, many people have under estimated it's power and force, and it cost them a lot more than a cell phone.
