Anyone who survived the dot-com era will have fond memories of Kozmo, which dispatched bike couriers to bring you candy bars, tubs of ice cream, or VHS rentals when you were just too lazy to get off the couch. Kozmo was one of the era's most visible flameouts, but maybe there was a good idea there after all. LicketyShip offers the same kind of service, but with a twist, delivering electronics and gaming gear within four hours of ordering.
LicketyShip doesn't use bike couriers but, according to reviews, old guys in trucks. And well they should: Their proposition is that they'll deliver up to 150 pounds of gear to you for $9.99. (Regular price is $19.99 but there seem to be specials going on if you order during business hours.)
Cool idea: Overnight shipping can often be $20 or $30 depending on what you're getting. $10 for same-day shipping? Sounds like a win. Reviews have been incredibly favorable, and, in at least one case, amusing.
I live in San Francisco, which is the only city LicketyShip is currently operating in, and I thought about trying it out today but simply couldn't come up with anything I actually need right now and the 80GB iPod was just a little too pricey for me right now.
Sound cool? I'll update this post when LicketyShip expands to other cities.

I read this post this morning and bought a wireless router to try it out. I placed the order at about 11:20am and the courier showed up at 1:10pm. I am still kind of shocked, and the router is sitting on my desk :) I'm not sure how they're making money -- it seems like the products cost about the same, and delivery seems pretty cheap. I hope they find a revenue model that works better than kozmo's did. This could be really popular.
