It works for Fido, so why not you?
The same RFID implants used to identify lost pets are now being adapted for use on you and me, and not how one might have originally expected. As with all pioneering technologies, it's leisure pursuits that are getting the first stab at the tech.
Specifically: One beach-oriented Barcelona nightclub, the Baja Beach Club, is using the implants to free customers of the burdens of having to carry their purses or wallets. Makes sense: When you're spending the day in a bikini and flip-flops, where do you keep your ID? Instead, the bouncer just scans your arm with an RFID reader, and you're in. And since you can't carry a credit card or cash either, the implants do double duty: You can pay for drinks with a quick scan of the chip. Chipped patrons also gain access to VIP areas of the club.
The implant procedure is simple and mostly painless (except for all the legal paperwork required): The area where the chip is injected is thoroughly numbed, then the glass capsule is injected beneath a layer of skin and fat on the arm.
It's an interesting experiment, and I'm intrigued to see whether the idea will catch on. The catch, of course, becomes what will happen if a lot of clubs in one area decide to do this. One RFID chip under the skin is probably an interesting conversation piece. A dozen in one arm might make you walk funny. Obviously the one-chip-per-establishment system isn't really sustainable in the long run.
Could someone come along and develop a broad human RFID chip standard? Such plans have been being talked about for years, but nothing much has ever come of it. Naturally, security implications are huge: RFID tags can be scanned, copied, and altered by savvy hackers, and it would be a simple matter for a wily crook to scan people en masse as they pass through, say, the entrance of a mall. It's one thing if they're making off with free drinks on your dime, another if they can suck your life away with the wave of a wand.
Pro or con? Well... it's something to think and talk about while you're doing all that drinking!

The only technology that is acceptable is one where you know when you are being scanned and accept the scan, so that nobody can scan you without your knowledge and rip you off. Current RFID technology isn't set up that way, its a dumb technology, so something else would have to be developed along these lines where you can actively "opt in" to a given scan with some place or person you trust for the purposes of a transaction you want to complete.
De Devil is coming the mark of the beast......... lol
This is just a first step. The ginnypigs..That's why it is offered at at bar first. HELLO If alot of people do it then the goverment well look into a bigger way to work for them. They are trying to make it seem like a cool idea. But sady for us smart guys who think we are out numbered. Like to see where this will be in 10 years!
Call me an alarmist, but have you never heard of the "mark of the beast" stuff? I mean, come on,...even if you have no religious backround and don't believe in any kind of god. If you believe that the bible is just a nice book, you STILL have to agree that any government having the ability to regulate and monitor your every move is pretty scary. Even worse is that some people are so stupid as to think that this could turn out any other way than REALLY, REALLY bad for you and me. Reminds me of one of my favorite movie lines .. "Your engineers were so busy thinking about what they COULD do that they never bothered to think about what they SHOULD do" (my paraphrase) Tom
Absolutely no way I would ever agree to this.
Ye can have me Head first, I'll not follow "The Beast" blindly into Oblivion ! Now as for the "Herded" masses you know the types (they think Paris Hilton is cool) well as o2cmefly said the "Sheeple" will go for it !!! To paraphrase P.T. Barnum : And a Fool & His Soul are soon Departed Mr. Mojo_Rizzin
Hmm, this sounds very close to the "mark of the beast" that is referred to in the Bible. Perhaps Armageddon is upon us.
That's a link to a 5 year old article. Did you even check the place still exists let alone does that?
Cool technology
The world is starting to be a scarier place to live in.
Inb4 Christians talk about the mark of the beast keeping them from VIP sections.
This will be grist for every layer of gov't possible. They will prohibit it for commercial use but gov't will want to use it for "law enforcement" or other "public" purposes. Really kind of scary. I hope people are not so clueless to want to get implanted.
why would anyone want a foreign object injected into thier body? who knows what the ramifications will be in the future. Probably creates cancer down the road. why doesnt someone just invent a bikini with a pocket? make it cool and fashinable and everyone will have one. here's another idea. what if that part of your body experiences some trauma and the chip makes its way to an artery or something? like a drunken clubber never falls down, fights, or gets in accidents. i know thats far fetched, but what if? or just have a pocket on your cell phone. everyone carries one of those anyway. you only need ID and a credit card which can easily go anywhere.
this is truly scary, what a way to introduce though, very clever. Is it the mark of the beast? if so, don't volunteer for it
The "powers that be" have been fooling the GP into things that are NOT in our best interest. This RFID will "save you from having to carry ID, purses, etc. etc." What a whole lot of horse *&*!%. Is "clubbing" so important that people would give up the last little bit of freedom they have? The very acronym-VIP- carries such importance everywhere. One helluva price to pay.
give me a break. You get an injection to go in a bar. People are SO stupid. they'll probably have it tied to twitter soon.
hmm...been waiting 4 this since they started talking about storing all of your medical data on one implant in you for hospitals - i'd opt out....nolo_8 - ur right! very scary!
soon they will have poison in them and the government can kill us if they want. DONT LET THEM IMPLANT YOU.
I'm no Christian, but this is exactly what a Christian family described to me as 666 about 15 years ago. Creepy!

the mark of the beast! It started out on beasts (animals) for a trial run for us. Dont be fooled. the Bible is true. fact is you get so used to something after a while your numb and accepting of it. This Is Wrong!
