Looks like it's almost time to quit all the moaning about how you can't use your iPhone at work: Corporate IT departments are taking up the iPhone in increasing numbers, and resistance is thawing considerably.
It was really only a matter of time. The iPhone has become such a phenomenon with users that IT departments are finally caving in to the pressure from their whiny employee base. The numbers already look pretty good for Apple: 2 million iPhones sold to business accounts by the end of 2009, giving it a 7 percent share of the corporate market (up from 2 percent last year).
The reasons for the grinding down of IT management are about what you'd expect, and Fortune lays them out pretty succinctly:
- Users love their iPhones, and sky-high satisfaction ratings have made the frequent IT department position of "let's wait and see if it breaks" irrelevant.
- Turns out you can type just as fast (or faster, ahem) on an iPhone's touchscreen than on a phone with a physical keyboard.
- Thousands of enterprise-focused apps are now available for the platform.
- The competition -- namely RIM and Windows Mobile -- is now "years behind Apple" in capability. Enterprises now actually ignore the iPhone at the risk of hampering their business's success.
So, good news for those iPhone fans out there who find they have to use one device for personal work and another, lesser device for business: Your day of convergence is probably nigh.

Our company's higher-ups have been using the iPhone for the last six months, and everyone LOVES it!
I believe that Apple finally found a way to get as popular as a PC. If they are interested on getting more market, maybe they should seek up more compatibility with that line of the technology. Moving from beying almost like a 'tech gadget' or a toy for the riches to a corporate tool, the iPhone can get more accessible and at some point, even needed, like the Personal Computers have got. Continental Who's Who on Iphone -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I purchased the 3g Iphone and found that business networking sites like Continental Who's Who are getting into the game by adapting their existing sites to give iphone users a whole new experience. I would like to see this mobile site as an app. I don't know what Apple's policy is for having web based apps in their store. Either way its nice to see iphone/mobile sites that are being developed as it gives us more functionality and use from our phone. www.continentalwhoswho.com/iphone

Our company started with the iphone (3g) the week they were released.We work in the environmental field (emergency response, chemical cleanup)and I can't tell you how many times the iphone has helped me out. If I needed equipment for the job, I could shoot an email to procurment and boom my order was in. Our company has scheduled work, every afternoon we get the schedule for the next day. So now we know what were doing the following day, the day before. Instant access to anyone in our office. Im terrible at keeping phone numbers. Its so easy to go to the group directory and pull anyone in the company's number. It has had its glitches. Nothing is perfect. But for the most part,I am 98% pleased with the iphone. Life saver? Yes!
