I knew I had a lot of favorites in my browser, but 1,300 of them? I had no idea!
Checking them by hand to see which were still valid would have taken a month. But thanks to Lifehacker, I ran into this little piece of freeware: AM-Deadlink. AM-Deadlink scans your favorites file, tests every link, and lets you know which ones are no longer valid. I had about 150 dead links, and cleaning them out (which is easily accomplished without leaving the program) made me feel like a million bucks.
AM-Deadlink also downloads all favicons (those little icons that appear next to the URL in your browser and in your favorites list) so your favorites list looks pretty, and it has a built-in duplicates finder (who knew I had 50!).
The software works with almost every browser for all versions of Windows (sorry, Macs). If you have a ton of links and their level of dilapidation is starting to drive you nuts, AM-Deadlink is a can't miss download. Did I mention it's free? Get it now.
