As if they didn't have enough stress in their lives, millions of BlackBerry users suddenly found their email nonfunctional last night and this morning when RIM's messaging service abruptly went dark. Those itching for an email fix in the middle of the night had to put away the smart phones and bust out their laptops. The service was restored this morning around 7 a.m.
The scary thing about the outage isn't just that the service was offline for 12-plus hours but that RIM still doesn't know what caused it. That means it could happen pretty much any time—and not just to BlackBerrys but to any wireless device like them. And BlackBerrys are supposed to be the reliable ones, historically known for their "rock solid" service, as PC World notes.
So what's the lesson here? Don't put all your techie eggs in one basket, and always have an alternate means of getting access to critical information like your email.
RIM says that nearly all BlackBerry users should have their service back by now, but if not, ABC News is reporting you should take these steps to fix it:

also tried to send the email to a blackberry user and it would not work. guess the blackberry bug is still alive and well.
I suspect the NSA can now read anyone's blackberry messages.
I actually lost service monday night, not tuesday. It didn't recognize my sim card in the phone even though it was there, and it mysteriously rememdied itself a few hours later. I don't know if that is related to the outage or not. Has anyone else experienced this?
Interesting that sullivanerica715, who posted the comment about blackberry users being "to freaking dumb" to use their devices, doesn't know how to proofread a simple comment apparently. Who's the dumb one now? Jerk.
I think we should all get a new phone this is the second time blackberry pearl with dont for days and mine is still not work 2 day now thats b s and they tell me i have to buy a new phone out right if i dont want the black berry they need to give us a break
who is this "blackberry"? and where was i when she was going down? well you tell her that this female is waiting for her to go down on me!!!! "techie" "geeks" own the money supply, they created everything technilogical and they can erase you!! and you, and you!!!!
MAYBE it could be a UFO.
those nerds happen to have the best jobs
ALERT!!!!!!! Users should not just pull the battery. It sometimes causes the operating system to stop working with a JVM error. All data will be lost if this happens. The user should use their thumbwheel to scroll to the last icon and turn the device off using the power icon. Sincerely, a Telecommunication Technician
Maybe the Bees did it in retaliation for all of the cell phones that are supposedly taking out their species. If I was a Bee I would probably have done it.
I didnt have any problems with mine tuesday night...... must have just slept through it.....
I personnally think the circuits got overloaded from all those voters in the south-asian subcontinent trying to rig the vote for Sanjaya.
neeeeeeeeeeeeeerddddsss
Wonder if this has any relation to the reduction in Honey Bees, another story on Yahoo earlier today? Blackberries go blank? Honey Bees missing? Coincidence? I think not!
NOTHING WILL BE LOST IF YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY!!!!!! I have had to do this for other reasons before. Same saved photos still there..... same names in phone book.... same emails hanging out..... If your that worried... take your phone to the Verizon store and have them do it... they would be responsible... Besides... why would Verizon post it on the internet if it would make everyone mad?
trying to get all my ducks in a row to move in the next 4 days but can't because my phone doesn't work.
It is probably the Bees retaliating!
why........so rude
yes, only those who think polka dots and stripes go together are NOT nerds..... we know!! we know..
