10 Lies Your Boss Tells You

If you've ever worked for a big corporation, you've heard some of these. Money Smart Life offers the 10 lies big companies tell their employees. It's a perfect read for a Friday morning when you're ready for the weekend. See how many of these you've been sold in the past.

My favorites...

  • "We're working on it." There's work and there's work. Usually this means they think about your problem when they're having their mid-morning snack, not that they're devoting any actual time to solving the problem at hand.
  • "It's company policy." Denied a raise or a job change? It's policy. It's amazing how many of these policies don't make it into the employee handbook that HR makes you sign.
  • "We want you to have a life outside work." Oh, that's a doozy. That's why the company lets you have that BlackBerry. So you could take your work with you everywhere you go.
  • "The customer is always right." As long as you're able to take care of his needs and the boss doesn't have to.
  • "Hope you enjoy your vacation." As long as you get all the work done that you would normally have done during your time away.

That's my five favorite entries. Hit the link for five more, and share the best lines your employer has tried to sell you in the comments section below! (Best not to name names, of course...)

I love this one heard almost annually . . . . . "I put you in for a (some number over 5) percent raise but (fill in the name of some upper mid-level manager)only approved a (some number under 3) percent."

"I Don't Know" was one I heard the most. I t was one of the most simplest questions I had on salary and 'I don't know' was the excuse I got. I ended quitting over the lies I kept getting told by the jokers I used to work with.

"We really value your hard work and loyalty, I honestly wish that we could pay you what you're worth." But of course thay can't, the CEO just got a 40% bonus!

Please always remember that anything your boss tells you is a lie. Big companies and the managers that work for them are constantly on a mission to elimante your job if they can. It doesn't make them "bad", however you need to realize that you are just a brainstorm away from being unemployed. It doesn't matter what your position is. Don't be a fool and lie to yourself. Do not under any circumstances have your self worth tied to your job. Your job will never be there forever. The only person that cares about you is YOU. Don't think your boss is your friend or cares about you...they don't...they care about their own jobs and themselves..you are a necessary evil they have to put up with until they can figure out how to replace you with a machine or outsourcing...Then you will see if they are your friends or if they care about you...
