Reader Regina ask: I'm looking for a digital camera and I've decided on a Casio Zoom model, but I don't know which model I should choose. I was wondering if you would be able to list a few good ones. Thanks.
Good choice, Regina. I use a Casio myself, the Exilim Zoom 750 (pictured). It's a nice camera, with 7.2 megapixels of resolution and a bright flash. I bought it for less than $300 a year ago; now it's about $200. Photos come out looking nice, but I'm a little disappointed at how long it takes to recover between shots, and how long the flash takes to boot up when I take the first shot of a session.
You might consider the Exilim Zoom 850 instead, which bumps up the megapixels to 8.12, has five extra shooting modes, and offers a much-needed anti-shake mode. At about $350, it looks like it's worth the extra price.
If you aren't taken with Casio (and I'm not trying to stump for them), check out the Canon Powershot A430 (4 megapixels and a mere $115) or the Powershot A620 (7 megapixels, $200), both of which should fit well in your price range and are very highly rated.

I recently purchased the Sony Cyber-shot:DSC-W70. It has been a great little camera and comes with a Carl Zeiss lens which improves the picture quality. Large LCD screen on the back and fairly simple to use. I spent $300 on it at Circuit City and got a 1GB Memory stick for it. While I normally avoid Sony products because of their proprietery nature...especially the memory stick it has been a good camera for me.
Why a Casio? I bought a Kodak V603 at Costco (approx. $270.00) about 3 months ago. I love the photo/video features that are easy to use. I was not aware of the Video feature at the time of purchase. But my digital camera is an amazingly easy to use for its size and cost. Incidently, I was given good information at a camera store: buy a camera from a company that ONLY makes cameras.
I was very pleased with Casio watches which, are really micro-computers that happen to have a watch feature so, I chose Casio EX-Z57 for $294 in Sept. 2005, a 5.0 megapixel. The last advertised price I saw was est. $240, 6 mos. ago. I have become a walking advertisement for Casio digital cameras. The pictures and videos are excellent with the premium of 2.7in display that knocks the socks off anyone viewing my camera. Ah, it's not a camera it's a micro-computer that happens to make pictures and videos. The options are all software selections and not mechanical knobs like the competitors old film camera style. I have assisted many other people with their non-Casio branded digital cameras and I would choose the Casio again. A philosophy to buy a camera from a company that only makes cameras is Jurassic, and seems to define companies that aren't doing to well in the newer digital camera technology market. Great product Casio!!!
