Prepare for Madness as Apple iPhone Arrives June 29

I hate doing posts like this, I really do, but the energy surrounding the Apple iPhone is so extreme that I just can't help myself. And the news is: It finally has a release date: June 29. 26 days from now as I type this.

There's nothing much more to add to the story for now. It's still $499 (4GB) or $599 (8GB) with a two-year contract from AT&T (née Cingular). It still doesn't have a 3G radio in it. And it still looks way cool. No news on what the monthly plan charges will be, as you'll definitely need some kind of data plan to run all of its cool features. If you want some more up-close-and-personal action, Gizmodo has Apple's three TV commercials for the iPhone (the last one is pretty amusing) that will begin playing any moment now.

How's June 29 as an omen for a product launch?

Not much good to report, really. It's the birthday of Gary Busey, Richard Lewis, and Fred "Gopher" Grandy. Much worse: Fatty Arbuckle, Katharine Hepburn, and Jayne Mansfield all died on that date, and the infamous Sampoong Department Store collapsed in Seoul on that date in 1995, killing 501 and injuring 937 more.

Bad omen or just unfortunate coincidences? I'm not sure, but I don't think poor Fatty's death will be enough to dampen enthusiasm for the "it" gizmo of 2007.

    jeri_space. Check out the Sirius Steletto. It has the features of an iPod, but also has sattelite radio

    I will be getting one. My contract was up with my cell phone provider so I joined the AT&T family. There are a lot of features I am excited about. One of those being the visual voice mail. I hate having to listen to four saved messages to hear the fifth one. With visual voice mail you will be able to select the message you want to hear just like you can select which e-mail you want to read. I am counting down the days.

    This whole Iphone Ipod stuff is so stupid who would spend that money for a bunch of stuff you dont need..................if you have some creepy thing where you need to have hundreds of sings while you talk on the phone mayb once of twice a week go ahead but you should do something more benficial to the world with that money

    I'm graduating from high school next week, and I asked my parents to get me the iPhone when they asked me what I wanted for graduation. However, I think I'd rather wait for a 2nd generation hone to come out, so that all the kinks and problems get worked out by then. And I can't believe I'm commenting on seemingly unimportant articles when I should be studying for finals.....

    What I don't get is why do people want to be so connected. I don't own a cell phone. If somebody wants me they can wait.It's amazing how humans can be sold things that don't need by companys who are very good at spoon feeding the public there latest.. " You've Got to have this toy. H

    Waste of money. How come so many people in this world spend so much money on a cell phone? I got the "free" phone when I signed up about a year ago. I just a new phone with a camera and MP3 player on it...doesnt work as well as my other phone. The other phone was a PHONE...just a phone. Tell me this...why spend $500 on a phone that is going to most likely going to cause you more grief then not?
