I hate doing posts like this, I really do, but the energy surrounding the Apple iPhone is so extreme that I just can't help myself. And the news is: It finally has a release date: June 29. 26 days from now as I type this.

There's nothing much more to add to the story for now. It's still $499 (4GB) or $599 (8GB) with a two-year contract from AT&T (née Cingular). It still doesn't have a 3G radio in it. And it still looks way cool. No news on what the monthly plan charges will be, as you'll definitely need some kind of data plan to run all of its cool features. If you want some more up-close-and-personal action, Gizmodo has Apple's three TV commercials for the iPhone (the last one is pretty amusing) that will begin playing any moment now.

How's June 29 as an omen for a product launch?

Not much good to report, really. It's the birthday of Gary Busey, Richard Lewis, and Fred "Gopher" Grandy. Much worse: Fatty Arbuckle, Katharine Hepburn, and Jayne Mansfield all died on that date, and the infamous Sampoong Department Store collapsed in Seoul on that date in 1995, killing 501 and injuring 937 more.

Bad omen or just unfortunate coincidences? I'm not sure, but I don't think poor Fatty's death will be enough to dampen enthusiasm for the "it" gizmo of 2007.

    The data packages will be the same for all PDA phones I'm sureof $39.00 on top of any two year voice package you may sign up for.

    the iphone looks great you should try the blackjack i got it in december its a great phone like the iphone but little less of programs like the ipod in the iphone

    There is no way I'm wasting 500 or whatever on a stupid phone. I'm also already with Sprint which is better than Cingular.

    No. I don't like Cingular / ATT. Any speculation on whether Apple is going to be exclusively ATT?

    the only reason everybody is on it is cause it's made by apple and has a trendy i-name to it...it's the same as all the other phones out there and cost a lot more than others...i'm not impressed! Jordan

    I know that I am buying one the moment they come out, I wish there was a 24 hr cingular stor cuz I would be there. This phone is going to be huge, I know a bunch of college students like myself that are going to have one, although maybe I am a little biased considering that I have 6 ipods and most every apple product made, even though I am unfortunately typing this on a dell and not my mac.

    Well, I don't know about yall, but I love Apple so I am very excited to see the new iPhone. I live by Macs and Apple...so bring on the iPhone, baby! lol
