Prepare for Madness as Apple iPhone Arrives June 29

I hate doing posts like this, I really do, but the energy surrounding the Apple iPhone is so extreme that I just can't help myself. And the news is: It finally has a release date: June 29. 26 days from now as I type this.

There's nothing much more to add to the story for now. It's still $499 (4GB) or $599 (8GB) with a two-year contract from AT&T (née Cingular). It still doesn't have a 3G radio in it. And it still looks way cool. No news on what the monthly plan charges will be, as you'll definitely need some kind of data plan to run all of its cool features. If you want some more up-close-and-personal action, Gizmodo has Apple's three TV commercials for the iPhone (the last one is pretty amusing) that will begin playing any moment now.

How's June 29 as an omen for a product launch?

Not much good to report, really. It's the birthday of Gary Busey, Richard Lewis, and Fred "Gopher" Grandy. Much worse: Fatty Arbuckle, Katharine Hepburn, and Jayne Mansfield all died on that date, and the infamous Sampoong Department Store collapsed in Seoul on that date in 1995, killing 501 and injuring 937 more.

Bad omen or just unfortunate coincidences? I'm not sure, but I don't think poor Fatty's death will be enough to dampen enthusiasm for the "it" gizmo of 2007.

So... are you getting one?

I really like Apple's products. The MacBook Pro is a phenominal machine. But I think I will wait for the price to go down a bit.

I wouldn't buy the iPhone or even entertain the idea. I bet Apple will make unwieldy to use as the iPod and force you to use their dysfunctional software that supposedly works with Windows. Apple always uses great hardware in a great design, but their products are rarely user friendly.

lopez_residence. Have you ever used a computer running windows? talk about freezing. Everything freezes some times. Its not a big deal. just reset it and its fine. Nothing is perfect.

I suggest waiting until Apple works out all of the kinks that are bound to surface in the beginning....... I will wait patiently.

So... are you getting one? No, of course not. Can you explain me why I should buy it? I have a cell phone, and I have an iPod. Why do I need another device, which just looks "cool"?

EDGE is too slow. Surfing is frustrating! They need the 3G.

this is the ugliest phone that I have seen I think this would have been cool to have if it was 1988. You might as well go out and buy a Zach Morris phone.

OMG! They are cool but seriously what is so good about them? This is the list of the 3 reasons not to get one: 1. You probaly will only have enough money to pay for the beginning. 2. They are cool but what's the point? It's just a brand name. 3. Doesn't Apple have enough money already? What's with the phone?

Most people in this country spend money they don't even have, buying things they don't even need, trying to impress people they don't even know :)

Yeah you really shouldn't have written that article, it told us nothing new.

I can't wait for the iPhone! It's the best combination of a Mac, a video iPod, and a Blackberry. I use all 3 today and this, if it works as advertised, will be a breakthrough. The iMac and OSX are performance leaders, the video iPod has no competition, and the Blackberry was a worthy pioneer. Who needs 3G? With OSX and Safari with streaming audio who needs a radio when I should be able to listen to my Sirius or any station on the web! Not to mention no spam, no virus, no crashing and no spyware! Another slam dunk for Apple!

I think just as the electronic world goes, its a test run for many more to come. I'm sure it will be great, but will have many different aspects that need improvement as seen with many other products that attempt to put what your computer and tv can do in a nifty little hand held device. I hope that it is nothing as I expect and exceeds all our expectations. Only then would I drop half a grand on something my dog could eat in 5 seconds.

not with that price tag, plus i would need to do more investigation on it, meaning are things on this iPhone suit my personals needs. Who knows i will go to At&t and see.

I am so excited the I phone, although a bit skeptical on the craziness it has brought. I am sure the lines will be pretty long and I am still trying to decide whether or not I will be one of the crazy customers in that line.

Why is AT&T the only carrier that will offer this? Will other cellular companies carry it soon?

  • 85 Posted by guzman86ss on Thu Sep 3, 2009 4:14PM EDT Report Abuse

I think ill get one when when a the ridiculous prices for data plans drop to about $10 to $15 a month, which will be hmmmmm.. never. I mean come on I am already paying $45 for by broadband connection, I am not going to waste another $40 on internet for a phone.
