For a mere $500 you can now have the tip top of the Treo line, the 700wx.
The 700wx is an upgrade to the 700w, the Windows Mobile-based version of the Treo. And let's cut to the chase about why you might prefer it to the standard 700w. Here's what's new or upgraded:
Watch that last step; it's a doozy. Despite early hopes, there's no GPS, no major RAM upgrade, and not even a screen resolution upgrade on the 700wx. $200 for dial-up networking and a little faster response time? That's frightening.
Also, don't expect much service difference between Verizon and Sprint. Since both Verizon and Sprint networks use CDMA/EV-DO service, there's no real difference in the type and quality of calls. If you're already using a Treo on Verizon, the experience will probably be about the same on Sprint.
My recommendation? If you're a Sprint user, this is the only way to get a Windows Mobile Treo, and it's only $100 more than the 700p, which Sprint also offers. If the OS is worth that much to you, go for the new one. But if you're on a different network and already have the 700w, you definitely won't want to break your current contract so you can get what amounts to a modest upgrade at best. I'd expect prices to fall rapidly over the next six months, too, so hang in there.
UPDATE: I finally got my hands on a Treo 700wx to do some hands-on testing and it does indeed respond faster than the 700w, but there's a catch: I got about 4 hours, 45 minutes of talk time until the battery died with the 700wx, vs. 5 hours, 30 minutes with the 700w. Not a huge difference, but one worth noting if you're considering the switch.

Sorry forgot to add this too, those of you on GSM. Keep lookin for the Treo 750, comes out later this year, first to Vodaphone as the Treo 750v. Cingular is supposed to have their own model too. No word yet on an unlocked version for say T-Mobile
I am the only one in the office with a treo - everyone else carries a blackberry ... any comments
I think I wait for the new BlackBerry Pearl. Palm has lost interest with me.
What out for sprint merchandise (phones included), will cost you an arm and a leg when compared to its competitors. I currently use sprint but I 'm having second thoughts.
I have a Treo 600 and love it. Spuratically I have had glitches, but it is worth it for the convienience of having phone email and calendar all in one device. I plan to upgrade to one of the 700, I just don't know which yet - I wish T-mobile would get one!
i have a treo. Most of its features are useless to me,
How much is this this thing?I like it a lot.I wonder if I am going 2 get that phone.SEE YA!
I just got the Treo 700wx this evening -it just hit the stores this afternoon. I haven't had much time to play with it but, wow, I love it. I just got rid of the 650(what a waste of money that phone was - went through 3 of them in 2 months). I think the 700wx is going to be great! You can also order the phone on the Sprint website.
treo sucked!!! sucked111 sucked!!! anyone who knows how the pda phones should work will all say treo sucked!!! i wasted my money when i bought treo, so i gave away my treo to my friend for free and he only use the treo as pda only. treo sucked. i cant stop saying "treo sucked"
Both networks are CDMA, but Sprint uses CDMA 1900mhz, where as Verizon uses only 800mhx CDMA, so the call quality will be much better with sprint. Also data charges is much less with Sprint. $25 gets you the top of the line data, verizon's is more than $45...
i have the treo 650 from cingular and i'm using t-mobile service and since i have it i never have any problrems at all like verizon, nextel, sprint and cingular users are having too many problems like the verizon commercial "can you hear me now" i try the blackberry and other pda phones and compare it all the features on the other pda phones and there is nothing c@#$% to the treo 650 that's why they call it the smart phone because trust me it is smart like me.
i have this cell does anybody cell have the screws missing. Every single screw has fallen out and my antena keeps falling off... does this happen to you all
My grandma says the $100 more for dial-up networking is not worth it; it doesn't even come with a recipe book.
Poorly researched "review"... The (Sprint) 700wx has TWICE the RAM that the (VZW) 700w has, which makes a HUGE difference in the stability of the unit, particularly when multitasking. Also the 700w is $399, not $299, to new VZW customers, so the difference is only $100, not $200. The guy has NO CLUE when he claims that Sprint's EVDO network is smaller than VZW's. Finally, the 700wx pricing is the SAME as Sprint's 700p pricing, not $100 more. Sheesh... this is what passes for "responsible journalism" ?
As a Treo 650 user I would like to warn all potential Palm Treo users of the fact that at least the 650 and 700 phones are very weak with little or no reception in rural areas. The phones have great features but if you travel out in the country you will miss most of your calls. Evidently Palm only tested these phones in large metropolitan areas and didn't bother to test them out in rural areas.
If you want/need a PDA phone, you're much better off with a 6700 (Sprint or Verizon) or an MDA (T-Mobile). I have a Verizon XV6700 and while it's not perfect, I don't regret it at all - unlike most Treo users I know.
Treo outsells pocet pc for sure...EVDO feature is awesome even on the Blackberry 7130e by Sprint!
some people don't know technology that much thats why they dont like the treo i'm a business owner and trust me this piece of art does all the work for me and most of the enterpreneurs and business owners. it's not for everybody only for the smart minds not for kids or game lovers this phone is more for business use only. if you are not a business owner this phone is not for you you have buy the kids version.
I just switched from the Treo 650 to the Motorola Q. My advice to anyone considering the same: stick with the Treo. -The Digital Guy http://the-digital-guy.blogsoft.com
