I've long been a fan of the PowerSquid Outlet Multiplier: Instead of the old school power strip, which has its outlets all lined up in a row, the 'Squid has tiny extension cords running out from its base, so those bulky power adapter bricks won't overlap onto other outlets. In other words, you can actually use all of your outlets, every time.
My only complaint with the original Outlet Multiplier is that it only had five outlets. Even a $5 power strip has six plugs available.
Well PowerSquid has remedied that problem and more with the redesigned Calamari. Now you get six outlets, two of which glow with a neon blue (handy when you're fumbling under the desk). The cord is a full eight feet instead of four, and the plug to the wall rotates, fitting snugly against the wall and angled however you like it.
There's extra goodies, too: Built-in surge protectors for phone lines and coaxial cable, if you need 'em. Super-handy.
Now for the bad news: The Calamari will set you back 80 bucks, while the old Outlet Multiplier only costs $12.95. I know it hurts and it's not for everybody, but if you're the kind of guy that spends 300 bucks on speaker cable, the Calamari might actually be a good investment.

yeah, no reason to spend 80 bucks when a 5 dollar one works just fine.
Well... given that this is a surge protector with a joule rating 3240 and a high-dollar connected equipment warranty - not just a run of the mill outlet multiplier, I think it does makes sense. You won't find me hooking up all my equipment (worth well over 8K) to a $5.00 power strip with no surge protection and no warranty. I'll take the 'Squid!

It looks cool, but $80 is a lot...
