Thank you soooo much, Apple, for shrouding the iPhone in such mystery that it's left everyone painfully confused. Seriously. Of course I didn't really want to get an iPhone ahead of time so I could help explain the device to confused would-be customers. That'd be crazy. Fortunately, the New York Times' David Pogue gets to fill in for me today. He's been using an iPhone for weeks and he's obviously been besieged with questions about it. And unlike the silent masses, Pogue has answers. His just-out FAQ is quite helpful.
Among the highlights from Pogue's FAQ (and the big questions/misconceptions that I've been asked about):
Man, that's a lot of things that don't really thrill me and only a couple that do (OK, only one). But that's the Apple way: Ship the basic model first, then add features later (or let third-party developers do it with hardware add-ons).

honestly, I love Apple products, but not this Iphone. because I don't want to buy it because of the look. the one who buy this phone because they have nothing in theirs brain, or they are darn and just want to show up. I will buy it if the next generation coming out with a free operator, 3G network, GPS, Video Camera, MMS or others......... when you buy a product with something you really need, even with $600 or more, I am going for it. If this phone cost $300 maybe I think about to buy one. PS : DO YOU KNOW GUYS, TO PRODUCT THIS IPHONE COST AROUND $200 TO $240, SO LOOKING FOR THE PRICE. Vincent
The iPhone sounds like a real RIP-OFF $600 for a phone that you can only get 450 minutes and 200 texts per month is a TOTAL RIP-OFF and just think about how much you'll have to pay to load songs on it :(
All you iPhone fanatics and all you who want more than an iPhone and refused to buy one, should look at the Nokia N95. It does everything an iPhone can do and more and way better.
psicine, so you are one of those drivers who are not paying attention? You're supposed to be looking out the windshield and the side mirrors, not dialing a phone, checking email and texting.
I think you guys are on crakc. THe iPhone is sweet! First, you can use a different SIm card than the one it came with. Second, some of the thins you mentioned are moot. Who uses Firefox? I am sure some do but lets look at a % of people who use phones and browse the internet....Nobody uses Firefox..who cares if it doesnt sync. The iPhone is the best iPod....compare it to your iPod...this one is better...by far....does your current iPod have a phone? no. and....the web surfing is awesome...on WiFi it is obviously faster...on EDGE it is about 150-200K....so what are you really going to do with that extra second or two in time? blink? think a thought? What else can you do ina couple of seconds. My only knock is the inability todownload songs from iTunes directly from the phone..other than that it is awesome!

Does it have a voice dialing feature? How are we supposed to make calls on a touch screen while driving (even with a bluetooth headset).
