It seems like I do all my shopping online these days, seriously: A friend recently made fun of me for buying a roll of insulation online. I responded that it was the bubble-filled metallic kind, which wasn't stocked at Home Depot.
On the other hand, I no longer do grocery shopping online, I no longer buy necessities from Drugstore.com, I feel like I spend every other weekend at Home Depot buying spackle and paint, and I even went to a real clothing store a few months ago to purchase a pair of pants.
Are the times a-changin' for the double-digit growth of online retailers that we've become accustomed to? Though annual growth hit 25 percent in 2004, it's projected to hit just 16 percent and continue sliding for the foreseeable future.
Is the heyday over for online shopping? It certainly seems that way. There's just not much of a supply of new customers any more who have yet to jump online and experience Amazon.com, and overall online sales have gotten so high ($116 billion) that there's not much room for them to continue upward at their historical pace.
But the big news is that consumers just seem to be bored with online shopping. Offline competitors haven't exactly been sitting on their duffs, either. Many retail shops have refreshed their images and made the environments more enticing to offline shoppers. (Even Dell is getting into the game.) Seems to be working.
So, dear readers, are you doing more shopping online or off these days, and why?
By the way: Sorry if I'm only just now covering some older stories, but I"m playing catch-up in the wake of the iPhone. Better late than never, right?

On-line shopping is an excellent way to comparison shop, even if you end up buying locally.
I shop online for about 90% of everything I get. I can usually find a deal that saves me big bucks, shipping included, over items I can buy in the retail stores. Also many times I buy things I cannot find in retail stores. Sometimes I do buy things I find in retail stores although I could order them online because it is right there in front of me and I want it right now. When teleportation technology is complete enough to instantly deliver our internet orders, I will probably only go to the store to buy food.
I find that my local Best Buy and Office Depot are stocking less and less of the advertised stuff, saying they aren't allowed to carry a particular item etc. This forces you to shop online in these cases whether you want to or not, unless you want to just take what the stores have in stock. In many cases, in smaller markets, that is simply not sufficient.
Other than normal items like food, or basic needs at home depot I do all of my shopping on-line. I always get a better price, I can shop when I want (Usually 10pm to 1am), I avoid the hassle of wasting my time driving around, comparison shopping is FAR more efficient, I have a better selection, and I enjoy the on-line experience much more than live. I also usually shop on-line at locations that are shipping and tax free as well.

I shop online for everything I can get that way. I hate shopping. I don't own a car and having items delivered is the way to go. I can shop at 2 am if I want, and in my nightgown. Mostly, it's a big time saver.
