Reader Emery Walker writes: Do you know of any computer keyboards that are for big people who have big fingers? I have a friend that can't type on normal-size keys on the computer keyboard.

I have to say it's the most interesting question I've received in a long time, and while I might normally dismiss such a request as frivolous, I was moved to do a little research on the topic. After all, some people really do have big hands, which can make it difficult to type on today's shrinking keyboards. There are plenty of super-tiny keyboards on the market, why not some extra-large ones?

Turns out there's a niche for just such a keyboard out there. Typically designed and intended for disabled users and children, keyboards like this one from DataCal feature keys 1 inch across, vs. the 0.65-to-0.75 inches of a standard keyboard, just about right for those with monster fists. The $69 product includes both USB and PS2 interfaces and works on any computer, PC or Mac. Fentek Industries also offers a range of big key keyboards, also featuring one-inch-square keys, but its prices are considerably higher.

These keyboards aren't for everyone. Certain keys may be relocated or missing altogether, and touch-typists will probably go much slower as they adapt to the larger space required. They aren't cheap, either.

I'm sure other alternatives are available, too, but this is an odd little market and the companies selling these products aren't household names. Got oversized hands-on experience with a plus-size keyboard? Put your giant digits to work and tell us all about it.

I use one and now I can touch type without cramping. I have bigger hands and long fingers. It is also fun with the 3 y.o. kid who is discovering computers.
