Here's something I've suspected for a long while: Being forced to use outdated equipment not only makes office workers unproductive, it makes them unhappy and possibly unhealthy. This story in the Sydney Morning Herald cites a poll that says that old computers on the desk at work even encourage employees to take more sick days!

From the story: The survey said workers dealing with outdated equipment were 35 per cent more likely to take six or more sick leave days a year compared with the average worker. In France, where more workers use older computers, the likelihood jumped to 55 per cent. About two-thirds of those polled also complained of problems like eye fatigue, headaches, and repetitive strain injury (RSI).

Angling to get that beast under your desk upgraded? Print this story out and take it to your IT department.
