You might think Los Angeles, with its cellular-obsessed Hollywood power brokers, make the most calls on their mobile phones. Alas, L.A. is #2 on the list of the most frequent cell phone callers behind Miami, which beats it by more than 10 percent.
On average, a Miami resident makes a whopping 298 cellular calls every month (that's nearly 10 calls a day), dwarfing the 260 that Angelenos make.
Here's what the top ten (out of the 50 most populous cities in America) looks like, based on the total number of calls made in a month.
Some big surprises on this list, not just with cities like Detroit, El Paso, and Fresno cracking the top ten, but look at some of the towns that didn't even crack the top 30: San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Washington D.C. all clocked in with fewer than 200 calls per month.
Now for the caveats: The study was performed by Verizon Wireless and only includes the Verizon network. Again, the study ranked only the top 50 most populous cities in the U.S. and included both incoming and outgoing calls. And calling was based on where the consumer resides, not where the caller was at the time of the call.
Verizon has some more info in its press release, but not much. Take a look if you're interested in a little more detail.
