A practicing physician (who goes unnamed in this piece) has identified four health problems itinerant with "the geek lifestyle." That is, problems brought on by spending too much time with technology and too little out in the fresh air. Recognize yourself in any of these symptoms?
I definitely have all four of these maladies (in fact I have a headache and back pain right now), and I remember the day my attention span collapsed: When I installed Wi-Fi in my home and I could work while watching TV. Now I find it difficult to watch a movie without my notebook open in my lap. Technology, you're a blessing and a curse.
The story is light on solutions, but they should be obvious. Get a better monitor, a better chair, and some exercise.
Good luck.

me too as well, in not a tech-kind-of-girl...but i can live without a TV, like a year now, since i moved, i have no TV at all, watching movies would be like once a month, my time right now i for work, which happens to be a tech support for DSL and when i got home as soon as i turned on my laptop, its, on even though im sleeping !!! LOL!!!
wow... this is a real eye opener. i swear to God that i have 3 of the 4 symptoms (no backpain). i guess adding some extra exercise to my life could help clear this all up, huh?
Just 2 of the 4 for me. The backpain and insomnia. I wake up in the middle of the night with resolving problems at work on my mind. The backpain is probably caused by the insuffient sleep. I'm an IT manager/network admin/SW developer, so, I have lots to thinak about. If I had the pseudo-ADD nothing would ever get completed.
Everyone knows that the value of a meeting is inversely proportional to the length of it anyway. I'd say the inability focus on a long meeting is more of a geek mental protection mechanism against work place insanity.
"HD" is the magic word for selling a video product these days. And if it's HD, it has to be good, r ...

So its not just some stereotype. I have all four too. I can't recall the last time I've watched a movie in a movie theather. All my friends are like, "Get a life." But I just think my laptop is so much better. No crunching of others' popcorn or random laughter. After crouching there for 3 hours I can't even get up. Oops.
