Dang, how's this for a Christmas present? Once-mighty computer retailer CompUSA, now owned by a closing-time restructuring firm, will be shuttering all of its retail outlets nationwide after the holidays.
CompUSA already shut down half of its remaining stores this spring, leaving about 100 left open. Those stores, if you can find them, are probably already offering "going out of business" bargains on all remaining inventory. Snag the deals while you can.
The CompUSA.com web site is also for sale, though right now there's no indication that there's anything amiss at the company at all. In poking around, there are some interesting bargains to be had, including this three-PC version of Norton Antivirus 2008, free after rebate. That said, it would be understandable if you chose to shy away from spending a lot of money on an online purchase from the site right now.
Unless you're interested in the specifics of who will be on the company's executive team, there's not much more to this story that you'll find interesting. But let's all offer a moment of silence for one of the former giants of the PC retail biz. You shall be missed!

Good Bye blue sky
I was upset when the store 15 minutes from me closed last winter. I would drive past 2 Best buys & a Circuit city to get there.
Good riddance! I remember attempting to buy an Apple iBook from them and after waiting seemingly forever for a sales rep to appear. He then proceeded to pressure me into buying an extended warranty. I backed out of the sale, drove another 2 miles to Fry's Electronics and bought the iBook there. I never returned to any CompUSA.

What happens to all the replacement and extended warranties that they sold? I spent $70 to protect my Ipod!
