CompUSA Shutting Down All Stores

Dang, how's this for a Christmas present? Once-mighty computer retailer CompUSA, now owned by a closing-time restructuring firm, will be shuttering all of its retail outlets nationwide after the holidays.

CompUSA already shut down half of its remaining stores this spring, leaving about 100 left open. Those stores, if you can find them, are probably already offering "going out of business" bargains on all remaining inventory. Snag the deals while you can.

The CompUSA.com web site is also for sale, though right now there's no indication that there's anything amiss at the company at all. In poking around, there are some interesting bargains to be had, including this three-PC version of Norton Antivirus 2008, free after rebate. That said, it would be understandable if you chose to shy away from spending a lot of money on an online purchase from the site right now.

Unless you're interested in the specifics of who will be on the company's executive team, there's not much more to this story that you'll find interesting. But let's all offer a moment of silence for one of the former giants of the PC retail biz. You shall be missed!

Parts! What Parts? High priced cables, no adapters and on and on. Prices! Even the manufacture was cheaper. Did they have sales personnel who would help you with an item less than $500.00, Gee I must have missed them. The only regret is all the good companies they regourgetated, that is the real loss to all of us who know and love our little dim witted grey boxes with the screens that befuddle our eyesight.

oh, we are truly disappointed about the whole closing thing. One more competitor down the tech drain. We were able to get some things through our store that we couldn't obtain easily elsewhere. Maybe they should keep that online store going at least.

i was at my local compusa store today and there prices are higher than the the other big box stores, so don't go rushing down there to get a great deal its just not happening

We got a great deal on a 42" Samsung Plasma 11/05. Someone came out today, but TV has been ok for a few weeks now. Man said may have been a cable problem..Doubt it, the white line across the bottom kept coming and going for 8 months. CompUSA says our extended warranties will be honored..we will be lucky if that truly happens. Since no mention of a pending bankruptcy, it would seem a new group of investors have taken over with restructuring plans possibly under a new corporation. They will streamline their operations with fewer locations offering the best service in the tech wars! Sounds like a plan to me. Hey, do you guys at CompUSA need another good marketing & sales management person? I'm your guy...email me anytime.
