Lots of confusion bubbled up when CompUSA announced last week it would be closing up all of its remaining stores by the end of the year. Namely, many were rightly concerned about warranties, rebates, and other after-purchase issues. And now, CompUSA has posted a helpful web page that should provide the answers to all of those questions.

Some key points:

Extended warranties will be honored by a third party called Assurant Solutions. You can reach them at 877-520-8324 or this web link. Repair instructions will vary based on the product you bought.

Rebates issued before Dec. 12, 2007, will still be honored. Follow the normal filing instructions.

Gift cards are still valid but obviously must be used before the stores are closed down.

Items currently being repaired by CompUSA's "Tech Shop" will be returned, though I'd advise you to retrieve your gear as early as possible.

So that's good news and a sign that CompUSA will at least try to arrange for a stable, orderly shutdown instead of the free-for-all that some of these retailers undergo.

CompUSA also notes that the below link will be updated continuously, so check back for more news.

We've been wondering if they plan any "fire sales", with ridiculously low prices to rid itself of inventory. Their Sunday circular seemed to show pricing at normal levels. Any word on this?

Good riddance. The lever of service in your store SUCKED! Hopefully the (few) good people who WANT to work will find somewhere much better!

I quit buying from them when they ripped me off long ago when I bought a 286. They transferred the sales person to another store and no one would help me because I wasn't their customer. She wouldn't help me because she didn't work at that store anymore and had no loyalty towards it. And I told all my friends too. hahaha They're going out of business because of ex customers like me.
