Sooner or later every cell phone goes in the drink. For some it may be the bathtub, for others a glass of scotch. For many, the toilet. (No need to explain.)
Hey, you spent hundreds of dollars on that handset, so it's understandable that you might decide to attempt to rescue it. But how?
The Cell Freak has all the collected wisdom on the topic, including some advice I'd never heard, like soaking the phone in 95% alcohol to dissolve all the water trapped inside. I've personally had good luck with low-level heat for wet phones and laptops: A few hours on the lowest setting inside an oven (150 degrees or thereabouts) can dry out a gadget and make it good as new.
Regardless of which method you try, remember to remove the battery from any device you attempt to salvage. If this hasn't been made clear by now, batteries are deeply susceptible to damage from heat and foreign substances. They're also relatively easy to replace, so don't even try to save a battery if it's been compromised. However, batteries are by design well-sealed to prevent water or other materials from getting inside, so a quick wipe with a towel should be all you need to save a power cell.
Remember that these methods are not foolproof; in fact, they're far from it. Water and electronics just don't mix. My personal record on saving wet gadgets is about 50-50, but those are pretty good odds in my book, and with this advice, they're even better.

One tip is to not buy a phone that costs a weeks salary. a $30 phone is all you really need =]
I got sick while driving and ended up vomitting all over my dash board, killing my stereo. I took it out, rinsed it with tap water and after about 4 days of letting it sit... good as new!
I washed my cell phone (Samsung)in the washer. It worked after replacing the battery. However, the charger did not revive.
i saved my cell phone after dropping it in the toilet by placing it in a baggie full of dry white rice.... after about 6 hours, the rice absorbed all the water and it was back to normal!! Kristi, PA
I ran my cell phone through the wash. I took the battery out thinking it would be easier to get the water vapor out if it wasn't in the phone. I turned the oven on and let it warm up. Turned the oven off and put the phone in. I did that several times and to my surprose the phone worked.
I sat in a hot tub with my cell phone in my pocket for about 15 minutes before I realized it. When I got out, I took the phone apart and used a blow drier on it to dry it out. It still didn't work. I was out of town when this happened so the next morning I put it on the dash of my car as I rode home. The next day my phone worked as good as new.
i wish i wouldvre did this yesterday
My Brother's phone was in his pocket of his pants and my mom acidentily washed and dryed it and when she was folding his pants she noticed it was in there it was a 400 dollor phone and i told him to just put it near a vent and let it dry for a week and it workes now:):D So he was happy.
once, i dropped my phone in my pool. all i did to fix it was remove the battery and then blow dry into all of the openings with the cool setting on my blow dryer. i wiped off the battery and replaced it, and my phone was just as good as new!
Yeah, if you're lucky you can dry out the phone, after rinsing it if liquid was something other than clean water. But know that the phones contain moisture-detecting "tattle-tale" devices, so don't expect your phone to be repaired or replaced, at least not under warranty.
my dad was out disc golfing and he lost a disc in the river, went in to look for it and dropped his phone in. i put took off the battery and put it in the freezer, left it over night, put the battery on the next day and hes never had any problems with it since!
I've left my phone in the rain and have dropped it into a lake. Both times, I took out the battery and covers then let it sit out on my desk until it wanted to turn on.
If you dropped your cell phone in water like a couple of months ago can you still put it in heat or something and it will work because it's been about 4 months since my friend dropped theirs in and it still is broken!!
i acually have used the meathod of alcohol and it does work. But you do have to remeber the oven temp. and remeber....when you take the phone or any other electronic out of the oven to not use it for a few hours.
well of you put your phone in the oven or something wouldnt somthing in you phone or your phone like, melt???
I CAN'T BELIEVE NOONE HAS SUGGESTED THIS!!!! Stick your phone in a sock and sling it. The centrifigal force will slings most of the moisture out asap!!
I thynk tht is the funiest thyng. u said to place it in alchahol but wldnt the liquidof the alchahol mess up the phone. but wht i thought was even funier was u said place it under low heat. i dropped my phone in the tollet last winter. we had the heat on. i strung that phone up and hung it undernieth the ceiling vent and left it there 4 a few hours and it was as good as new.
Its true! Once i dropped my phone in the sink. I had to take the battery out & let it dry out for a couple of hours. It worked like new after that. :]
my cell phone took a trip through the washing machine once. I left it in my pants and so it went though the rinse spin soap and whole deal. needless to say it was not working when i took it out. I took the battery out and left it and the phone just sitting on my dresser for a week. Over the week it dried itself out and worked again.

take the battery off, and then stick the device in a zip-lock bag full of uncooked rice. leave the device in the bag for a couple of days, so the rice can absorb all the moisture.
