In response to eBay's recent announcement that it would no longer allow sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers, the uproar has been deafening. How deafening? So loud that a boycott has been planned, set to begin tomorrow on February 18, 2008 and run for (at least) a week.
Will it stick? As I noted in my original post, eBayers who want to auction things have little alternative to the auction giant unless they want to open their storefronts or sell at fixed-price merchants like Amazon.com.
However, a recent poll of eBay sellers showed that a full 90 percent were unhappy with the policy change (though AuctionBytes notes that no one was really happy with the feedback system before the change, either). Though, as the above story notes, "What I'm hearing from a sellers is not, can we afford to boycott eBay for a week, but rather, can we afford to continue selling on eBay once these changes roll out?"
eBay boycotts are nearly as old as eBay itself, and none of those have been effective at getting the company to change its policies. But things may be different now, as sellers appear to be weighing whether to even bother selling merchandise online at all, turning instead to flea markets and enthusiast fairs instead of wading through what many now see as a bureaucratic and expensive nightmare.
Still, eBay may be taking the threat seriously. To mitigate any ill will, eBay is offering a listing promo until the 20th (per AuctionBytes), and its new discounts for media sellers take effect on that day, too. Will people be drawn to a deal enough to overlook a few policy changes? We shall see.

Where is the seller protection? We are the ones putting money into eBay's pocket. I am really tired of eBay protecting only the buyers and not the people who keep them in business. If another online auction site similar to eBay would open up and get some customers, I would definately go to that one and quit as a seller on eBay! EBAY STINKS!!!!

EVERY time you do a search & see a PAID ad either at the top of list OR down the right side (google paid ads) that says ebay.com (not individual stores)... click on it. Pass this on to everyone you know. make them use those fees they charge us instead of raising the CEO's paycheck!

Many angry eBayers launched a boycott against eBay or feebay as they would call it. Since eBay started many people have been loyal customers but now eBay wants to get greedy and give their LOYAL customers less bang for their buck! The constant raising of fees and the limitations they are putting on feedback is a big slap in the face for everyone. They tend to forget who made them what they are! They are trying to run off the little people and only keep the customers who are "power sellers" who spend a fortune with them. This is wrong on so many levels! Ebay will crumble and in time just become a faint Internet memory! So many people are turning to Craigs List. But, what most don't know is that Craigs List is owned by eBay. Sure you can list certain thing for free, but you have to list it city by city. There isn't a store option or any other options for that matter. Lets face it how long do you think it will take for eBay to make Craigs List completely overpriced as well? There are alternatives. We at USAuctionsLive.com have seen this coming for a long time.
