Hybrid Hard Drives Required for Vista Premium Laptops

What's a hybrid hard drive? It's a newish technology that adds 256MB or so of flash memory inside the drive case. Why? It's used as a sort of buffer for shorter term storage needs, which means faster boot time and better battery life. In theory, anyway.

Vista Premium laptops released after June 1, 2007 (ah, it seems right around the corner!) will be required to include the new drives if they want to receive the Vista Premium logo. Does this mean you won't be able to run Vista Premium on a notebook without a hybrid hard drive? Not at all. Does it mean you can expect laptop prices to go up a bit next year as vendors rush to include these drives in their systems? You better believe it.
