Netscape's New Site Looks Awfully Familiar

Digg.com is one of my daily visits. Or rather, I go there a few times every day to scope out breaking tech news and other tidbits of the moment.

Well, the Digg setup has garnered some attention from the big guns: Netscape (part of AOL-Time Warner) has launched its own Digg-like site. Currently visible at www.beta.netscape.com, the site will reportedly be part of the Netscape home page in the near future.

So far, I like it. It's like Digg, but with news about Paris Hilton and scuttlebutt about Ann Coulter. It's almost the E! version of Digg, which is a fun thing. The Digg effect also seems headed for additional web properties, something which Kevin Rose, founder of Digg, seems pleased as punch about. As he (unverified) votes in this message, "The idea of voting for what is hot and what is not has been around for a very long time." Heck, we've even got a primitive version of it here on Yahoo! Tech. That's what those helpful/not helpful buttons are for. Although my posts are always helpful, right?

What do you think about voting for what makes the news? Power to the people or do you prefer it when an editor gets involved?
