How many times has this happened to you? You visit a web site but registration is required, with a valid email address needed for confirmation. But maybe it's just a message board you want to read one time only, or a store you have no interest in shopping from again and from which you don't want to be saddled with a lifetime of spam. And you can't use a made-up email address because you have to confirm a link or send back a reply.
One solution is to register for a free email account specifically for uses like this by visiting one of any number of web-based mail systems, such as Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or Gmail, but registering for any of these takes an eternity. Then there are passwords to contend with, a mother's maiden name to input, all kinds of overhead in getting the account set up and logged into. I use these kinds of accounts, but sometimes the password gets lost, and eventually they fill with spam, making it a pain to navigate.
Well here's a brain-dead simple solution to the problem: 10 Minute Mail (Note: Web traffic from this story may be causing the 10 Minute Mail site to crash. If it doesn't load, try it again later.), which provides, for free, exactly what is promised in the name: An email address that vanishes after 10 minutes. There's no registration, no verification. Just click over to the site and hit "Get my 10 Minute Mail e-mail address." You'll instantly be given an address that ceases to exist after 10 minutes. You can then use this address in filling out web forms or whatnot, and a very simple web-based interface gives you full access to any mail the account receives. You can reply to any messages, but you can't send mail to an account that hasn't already emailed you. If you can't get the job done in 10 minutes, you can reset the timer to 10 minutes at any time. There's no need to login, no password to remember.
For safe surfing and spam avoidance, I haven't found a simpler, more elegant solution than 10 Minute Mail. It works flawlessly and couldn't be easier to use. It's earned a place in my Favorites folder. Give it a spin and see what you think!
(Update: The site seems to be having trouble handling the crush of traffic from this post. You might bookmark this page and try again in a few hours.)

I use my free yahoo email accounts for that kind of garbage.
Try a .mac account from Apple. The web-based IMAP mail account gives you a main account and up to three additional "aliases" that put mail directly into your main account. If you get too much junk, just delete the account. Worried about viruses? Well Apple wont let anything through with a viruses for one, and two, Apple's don't get viruses.
www.mailinator.com has been doing this for years and it last longer than 10 minutes...
Yes, there is something faster and easier: mailinator.com. With it, you don't even need to sign up in advance. You just make up an email address instantly on whatever website you're on, and when that other party sends an email to the mailinator account, the email account is instatnly created and allows you to access it for once before self destructing.
i have a feeling that many will find a way to block emails made from there. it will work for a while before anyone catches on though.
It's nice to see this sort of thing becoming mainsteam. For the past few years I've been using www.sneakemail.com to make email addresses that forward to my address and can then be deleted. 10 minute mail is a much more professional version of it, but I have to disagree with you mo_bhav, because this sort of thing has been going on for a long time.
AWESOME!!
I use Yahoo temporary addresses. Anytime I buy something online or sign up for a newsletter I create a new account specifically for that merchant/task. In addition to being able to simply delete the account when a bunch of spam starts showing up for say, baseaddress-storename@yahoo.com, it also lets me know who is sleazy enough to sell my information and I can choose one of their competitors in the future.
This is a great solution, indeed, but one other little thing I found is an extension to Firefox called BugMeNot, which has a database of fake logins and suchlike for a similar problem. The downside is that it doesn't seem to always work on every website, but still, it's worth a try as all it is is a little right click and Login with BugMeNot, easy as pie. Cheers.
www.mailinator.com....much better
neat idea, but yahoo, gmail, and hotmail accounts just take a couple minutes to set up, and they stay there for one to use.
click on What Site???? What is the site address?
I'll have to give this a try sometime. Most places I sign up for just need you to validate an e-mail address.
This is what I get when I go to the website: Gateway Timeout The following error occurred: [code=GATEWAY_TIMEOUT] A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please contact the administrator.
This does not work! It's a capital idea if only it would work.
another that I've used periodically is mytrashmail.com
www.bugmenot.com
I don't really need this service because I have 2 designated junk mail accounts with hotmail, but for other's it could be very useful.
Just use xmail.net, simple registration process.

Great, but truthfully,I don't need it.Why have a 10 min. e-mail adress when you can just get a permanent one??? I think that this 10 min. e-mail adress thing is not needed and that it will just waist time when today you make one to look at some clothes from a store and then tomarrow do it all over again.Whats the use????
