How many times has this happened to you? You visit a web site but registration is required, with a valid email address needed for confirmation. But maybe it's just a message board you want to read one time only, or a store you have no interest in shopping from again and from which you don't want to be saddled with a lifetime of spam. And you can't use a made-up email address because you have to confirm a link or send back a reply.
One solution is to register for a free email account specifically for uses like this by visiting one of any number of web-based mail systems, such as Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail, or Gmail, but registering for any of these takes an eternity. Then there are passwords to contend with, a mother's maiden name to input, all kinds of overhead in getting the account set up and logged into. I use these kinds of accounts, but sometimes the password gets lost, and eventually they fill with spam, making it a pain to navigate.
Well here's a brain-dead simple solution to the problem: 10 Minute Mail (Note: Web traffic from this story may be causing the 10 Minute Mail site to crash. If it doesn't load, try it again later.), which provides, for free, exactly what is promised in the name: An email address that vanishes after 10 minutes. There's no registration, no verification. Just click over to the site and hit "Get my 10 Minute Mail e-mail address." You'll instantly be given an address that ceases to exist after 10 minutes. You can then use this address in filling out web forms or whatnot, and a very simple web-based interface gives you full access to any mail the account receives. You can reply to any messages, but you can't send mail to an account that hasn't already emailed you. If you can't get the job done in 10 minutes, you can reset the timer to 10 minutes at any time. There's no need to login, no password to remember.
For safe surfing and spam avoidance, I haven't found a simpler, more elegant solution than 10 Minute Mail. It works flawlessly and couldn't be easier to use. It's earned a place in my Favorites folder. Give it a spin and see what you think!
(Update: The site seems to be having trouble handling the crush of traffic from this post. You might bookmark this page and try again in a few hours.)

I wish gmail (choose your email) would offer e-mail aliases much like credit cards offer single use credit card numbers. All the mail would show up in one inbox but you could create/delete aliases as needed.
brilliant idea, wish I thought of it first !!
Mailinator does it first and better. How much did Ten Minute Mail pay you?
I see this as a useful tool, but it also allows scrupulous identify theft thieves one as well.
A better solution is to use the Yahoo! AddressGuard to create an email address for each site. It take almost no time and you can choose whether/when to delete it, whether to place mail sent to the address in a specific folder and even whether that mail should be scanned for possible spam. The service requires a Yahoo! mail upgrade, but it's worth it!
I know why they call it "10 minute Mail"...........'cos it takes 10 minutes for the site to download. Gave up in the end, gonna carry on with my fictitious email addresses set up specifically for this reason. GMail is fantastic as it has a bounce back facility for real junk mail.
This would be really cool if it worked.
That seems to still be more work than is necessary. Yahoo offers up to 500 disposable email addresses free if you are a subscriber. You set one or more up for just this purpose. If you start to get spam you just delete it and make up another. The address you create is unique and totally up to you what you name it (it looks like ****.***@yahoo.com They show up in your email folder with a pink box in the border. So if the spam starts it is easy to identify. Delete it and it stops. sck
Great site, nice and simple. However, I just use Yahoo AddressGuard, to create temporary email accounts. When they spammed, I delete them. All I have to do is setup a folder for the email account.
need to e-mail yahoo billing
a simpler solution is, get a GMail address.. use it wherever you want.. woudn't it be painful to go to a site everytime to create an email ID?
With most e-mail accounts you can have more than one address,i'm not telling anybody anything new,or maybe so. Just have one for the good and one if you are just, wondering about things.
this is great! awesome! thanks! oh and another note: i set my email thingie to automaticly deleting things that end up in my "bulk" folder. helps bunches with spam and stuff. i also have a gmail account, which has great spam filters, which i use to sign up for things that also forwards everything that doesnt get filtered over to my yahoo. then my yahoo filters everything out that gmail missed. i get almost no spam! i could also get some more gmail accounts and keep on forwarding mail through them. that would get rid of a lot of junk
This solution may work but I think Spamgourmet.com is even better. You get your own "spamgourmet" email address, and add a word to it for each place you use it, plus specify how many emails you are willing to receive from that source (the site explains it well, it's not complicated although my explanation may be). The emails get forwarded to your regular account; once they've reached the number limit you said, no more emails. So there's no time limit and no separate account to check.
plain and simple email address.. some letters and then junkmail..thought they would understand then .. like tdwjunkmail@yahoo.com.
One of the simplest yet most effective way to reduce SPAM and any unwanted material from getting to my email about which I have ever read! Thank you for this advice!
Your advice sounds excellent. However, I have not been able to get a 10 Minute Address for more than two days now - it is either so busy I can't get through or it does not exist.
