Finally Microsoft has gone on the record: The next version of Windows, known currently only as Windows 7, is slated for delivery to consumers by 2010. The confirmation is a reversal of months of Microsoft's refusal to commit to a ship date for the product, or even more than a vague acknowledgment that, yes, there would be another version of Windows somewhere down the line.
Windows 7 development seems well underway now. In fact the company has delivered a version of the OS to government regulators so it could be checked for compliance with the various antitrust rulings and verdicts against the company. (One quite credible rumor says that Windows 7 will be highly integrated with Microsoft's Windows Live online services, hence the additional antitrust concern.) But other than looking at leaked timelines and conjecture about what Windows 7 might look like, no reliable intel has emerged about features, interface, or much of anything else. (When rumors swirl around an updated version of Paint and the Calculator, you know there's not much to talk about.)
Still, 2010 isn't sounding like too long to wait for a new OS, for those users looking to leapfrog Vista and go directly from XP to W7. Of course, Microsoft would greatly prefer you buy Vista immediately instead of waiting, hence the silent treatment on Windows 7.
Meanwhile, a new build of Windows 7 is rumored for arrival in the late spring or early summer. Hopefully the code will fall into more hands by then, along with the opportunity for us all to take a little closer look. Stay tuned.

I holding on to window xp is like holding on to your baby bottle it time to grow.
A new build, huh? I want to try it out.
there is nothing wrong with vista. the true problem lies with the pc manufacturers who have failed to make faster machines with more ram. besides, multi core, all they have done for the past few years is give you more hard drive space. the tech is out there with advance video cards, and ram, but the manufacturers would rather make things on the cheap and just give you more hard drive space. Its too bad Microsoft does not control and own their hardware. I'm glad they decided to make vista what it should be, this will force pc makers to supe up the machine if they want it to run right. in a year say goodbye to 256, 512, 1gb ram pcs. say goodbye to cheap outdated video cards. Vista is actually the answer, you'll see.
XP remain the king! Look at statistics! Vista have too many problems! I wait for Windows 7!
Well Windows 7 must have a higher stability against security threats than Windows XP and Vista.
Thank god for Macs. I didn't believe it was so bad till I got Vista. Microsoft will never get another penny from me after supplying me with a half-finished, bug ridden system that is compatible with nothing.
The only reason I bought and support Vista is because of it's 64 bit support. I have always been big on gaming and the 4gb RAM limit was holding me back on my old computer so with my new one I had Vista 64 bit installed. If you know what to turn off you can turn off all the bloat and put the memory usuage down to about 1gb idling. Vista is not for old computers. It is for new, cutting edge computers and it was made to take advantage of better hardware which you have to get a new computer to utilize. DON'T THINK THAT WINDOWS 7 WILL BE ANY DIFFERENT.
in regards to #14.....1GB idling? Are you serious? My Vista idles at 490mb, and that is with aero enabled. Learn to tweak those services more. I have absolutely no problems with Vista. Majority of Vista's problems are at the keyboard.
@ #15. I believe it is because of my processor. I have a 2.66 ghz quadcore and in order for it to work it eats memory like heck I have Aero on but most of the worthless stuff like transparent windows and such is off. It may also have to do with it being a 64 bit operating system. What ever is the case it's not like it's eating too much of my memory, I have yet to exceed 3 gb of my 4 and I plan on putting atleast 2 more in within the next year. Before I turned down everything I was climbing close to 2 gb idling. Probably is due to some excess backround programs but Aero alone is taking 66 mb to run.

Ubuntu/Vista dual boot right here. Once you get over some of the Vista issues of compatibility and stuff, I am actually kind of fond of Vista. Haha, although it has it's peculiarities, I just use my Ubuntu to fix anything I can't in Vista.
