To celebrate its 25th birthday, the good folks at Laplink are offering PC Mover for free, for today and today only.
Valued at $50, PC Mover is one of the most useful utilities
I've encountered in recent years. PC Mover is file transfer software unlike any you've likely seen before. It doesn't just move your data files and your program settings from one computer to another, it moves all your applications, too, which means no reinstalling Office, transferring your email software, or even reloading Photoshop. You can move from XP to XP, Vista to Vista, or even XP to Vista. In fact, it supports operating systems all the way back to Windows 95.
In my testing (see full review here), PC Mover worked flawlessly. While some commenters suggested using free cloning software when I wrote my review, that's missing the idea behind PC Mover: Cloning software creates an identical copy of your hard drive, while PC Mover takes everything and puts it on a new PC while leaving what's already on that PC intact. That's a blessing if you have a different operating system on the new computer, and it's critical if, say, you're jumping from a Dell laptop to an HP. Overwriting all the drivers on your new computer (as you'd do with a clone) is a surefire way to make it stop working. PC Mover, however, keeps all those system files intact.
The deal is good only for Thursday, May 15, midnight to midnight, Eastern Daylight Time. Even if you don't need PC Mover right now, it's a great idea to download a copy and keep it handy for when you do jump to a new PC. I know I'm grabbing a copy!
P.S. Laplink also promises other product giveaways today, including free laptops, so check it out at laplink.com!
UPDATE: Site is really slow right now. I'm checking with Laplink to see if they'll be extending the offer to compensate.
NEW UPDATE: Laplink tells me the offer will be extended through Friday so those of you who couldn't get through today due to the crush of traffic will be able to take advantage of it.

Site isnt working at all...
Ok, and now, this is what I get: Download Error: Unfortunately, this item has been downloaded the maximum number of times. What a monumental waste of my time and what a misleading promotion! Not happy at all.
After reloading the their homepage patiently for two hours I finally got to the registration page and after reloading some more (server overload due to free offer??) I finally was able to press the button for the actual free download. Now I have been trying to reload that page unsuccessfully for over an hour and still am nowhere near the free download. I eather get a message that the link appears to be broken or a whole bunch of garbage characters filling up the page. Will continue to try but, Man - couldn't these people prepare better? What good does a free aniversary offer do if you can't get to it because their whole system breaks down?
what a crock
Does one need their cable or, will any USB cable do?
i got it! took awhile though- must be very busy.good luck everyone.
I did get to the dowmload dialogue box. It said it had a 13M file to download. It downloaded 94K application that is not WIN32. Chris, The guys at Laplink took advantage of you and "killed" your credibility. Looks like all they wanted to do was build up their customer dB at your expense.
BAIT AND SWITCH!!!!!!!!!! Thanks laplink. After luring me over to download something that you will not honor, I promise that i will NEVER purchase anything that you produce. Crap like this makes me BT...
just do what it told me wait a few days and come back to download when the servers are not so overloaded because any server only has a limited speed internet connection and also they have about the same processing power as the average desktop have you ever tried running several thousand programs at the same time not going to happen is it but if you are patient and refresh a few times and you will eventually get an account with the download just login and click my downloads in a few days to get it
This did take a good while to finally get downloaded, but I did manage to get it done. I am guessing they were simply overloaded with hits.
I was not able to download it, but was given a serial number to use, so I can go back to the site tomorrow and still get it for free. We will see.
I had no prob with the download. I just followed the instructions and the total download time was less than 30 minutes if that.
onetimmay - no, it's still free, and it's still there
Some of you are giving LapLink a bad rap. I followed their instructions, waited a day to download, and have a free installation of PC Mover. Thank you LapLink, I will now consider some of your other products.
I GOT MY FREE DOWN LOAD WOOO HOOO NOW I CAN SET UP MY LAPTOP
