Here's a little secret: Dads don't tend to obsess over Father's Day. I have two kids and still had to look it up to find out when it was. Turns out it's next Sunday, June 15.
Most dads are plenty happy with a few hours of peace and quiet and maybe a nice bottle of Scotch, but some dads slobber over tech goodies. Want to give your father the gift of silicon this summer? Here's some ideas.
Dad surely already has a laptop, but he may not feel comfortable lugging his seven-pound work-brick along on the family vacation. Lenovo's IdeaPad U110 11.1-inch ultralight laptop is a great compromise between portability and features, and it's incredibly stylish, too.Â
Your father may reluctantly accept he needs a Bluetooth headset (particularly with California's July 1 law that makes talking on a cell phone while driving without a hands-free device illegal), but I assure you he doesn't want to look like a total tool with a gaudy, LED-laden headset telegraphing to everyone that he's got something stuck in his ear. The JX20 Pura from Jabra is muted, small, and crafted from titanium. Understated yet perfectly capable.
I enjoy golf a lot, but I'm terrible at it. A SkyCaddie would give me a distraction aside from trying to add up my three-digit score at the end of the day. This device offers detailed info on any golf course in the world (even telling you the shape of the green) and keeps tabs on your position every time you're about to take a shot. No more guesswork or relying on scopes to figure out yardage.
That New iPhone
It's coming soon, right? Gotta be. I want one. Especially if it has a golf course tracking app available.
With Blu-ray the crowned king of high-def, now's a good time to consider upgrading the DVD player to BD. But why bother with a standalone box? The PS3 isn't much more expensive than a regular Blu-ray player, and you can play Rock Band and Grand Theft Auto 4 on it. Caveat: Updated versions are rumored to be in the works, so you might hang tight for a few extra months on this one.

Here's one: a Father's Day card that plays music. :O jk jk
Advertising any gadget gizmo or product with prices included on the same web page, would be deemed appropriate in this very world of credit crunches, shoppaholics (material aquisitions)or online shoppers etc.
Oh how things have changed. Why does everything have a price tag and a bow? I remember MAKING (not buying) a card and dad/mom getting, me on my best behavior, and the other parent making a favorite dinner AT HOME and then a little pampering ie..back rub, quiet time, having the kids do some housework or errands. What are we teaching our children?

What about prices, Chris? It would be a good idea to sort these techie gifts by price ranges. Most of us folks have this irritating concept called "budget constraints"...
