Sporadic complaints have been emerging of late regarding Windows XP's recently-released Service Pack 3. As you may recall, SP3 was originally delayed after a major incompatibility problem was revealed with Microsoft's Retail Management System.
One of the major problems that has emerged was from users of Symantec's Norton security products. One component of recent version of Norton is SymProtect, which is designed to protect Norton itself from being directly attacked by malware. Something within the combination of SP3 and SymProtect went awry, causing some computers to fill up the Windows registry with bogus entries. Symantec originally blamed Microsoft but is now accepting at least partial responsibility for the issue. A fix is now available if you've been affected. The fix and complete instructions on using it can be found here.
Another odd problem has cropped up for some users who are using Billion brand broadband routers (specifically model BiPAC 5200). XP3 apparently causes some of these routers to go into an endless reboot state, making Internet use impossible. The solution is to update your firmware, which is available via links at the bottom of this page.
Some computers using AMD processors (mainly Hewlett-Packard machines) have also had problems with a specific driver issue in SP3. Extensive suggestions on fixing the problem are available here.
Happy patching!

Another tip for people when upgrading to SP3... A LOT of people have suffered from not being able to update windows through Windows Update after installing SP3. Here is a fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 Do Method 1. Super easy fix.
Just one more reason to NOT use the worst, most invasive anti-virus on the planet. And another tip, some PC's won't boot or continually reboot after SP3 is installed so be sure you are prepared for that possibility.
lucylovedavidaa010, please get out of our hair! I have seen your posts all over the place. Take your self-advertisements elsewhere besides all of the blogs on the World Wide Web! In regards to SP3, I haven't had those issues, but I have had issues with the new .NET updates, 2.0 and 3.0.
i was expecting sp3 to have a two way firewall... has microsoft given it on xp sp3???

I had the address bar open on my task bar at the bottom of my screen. After I downloaded SP3 on my PC at work, the address bar disappeared and isnt even showing up as an option on the right click menu. Any ideas to get it back?
