Hey, have you seen the video that shows how if you point a few cell phones at popcorn kernels and dial them all at once they'll pop? Sorry, folks, but it just isn't true. Turns out it's all a viral marketing stunt (and a hugely successful one, at that) from Bluetooth headset maker Cardo.
Throughout the week, inboxes have been flooded with "You gotta see this!" messages from people who'd seen the YouTube sensation. The video (watch the original here; the various videos have all been updated and are now labeled as "made by Cardo Systems") shows a group of friends carefully pointing their cell phones at a quartet of popcorn kernels. When all the phones begin to ring simultaneously, the kernels explode into popped popcorn. Delicious! Dangerous? While it says nothing about the issue, the video is supposed to get you thinking about radiation. If cell phones can do that to popcorn, imagine what they're doing pressed up against your face. Ideally, Cardo would like you to then start thinking about buying a Bluetooth headset... ideally one of its models.
Now Cardo's coming clean, possibly a little worried about the panicked response some viewers have had to the video. (As well: Other videos, equally faked with a straight face, have followed.) In a statement the company says, "The 'cell phone and popcorn popping campaign' is completely untrue and a joke. It has been seen by over 4.1 million users already and has become a sort of global urban legend as it continues to be tried throughout the world."
Of course there's still the matter of: If it wasn't cell phones popping that corn, what did? Theories have ranged from hair driers to hot plates to police department microwave radar guns to CGI. There's clearly something under that table. Who puts a tablecloth on the coffee table, anyway? Alas, the mystery continues. When I asked Cardo's PR rep which was the truth, he said, "You know, I don’t actually know."

Let's blame Bush for popcorn conspiracy! We seem to blame him for everything from the price of gas to the climate. I'm sure he is in bed with the bluetooth makers, just like he is with the oil companies and the weather man.
I don't know if this will help clarify anything, but I have noticed something square, cleverly hidden between the cloth and the table. If you watch closely, you can see the popcorns are placed on top of that square like device. And the three cellphones with the exception of one, are outside the square.
When a hoax is perpetrated for commercial reasons, don't false advertising laws begin to come into play?

DIGITAL EDITING! It'd take afew minutes. Nuff said.
Here's the real BUZZ... Brilliant advertising strategy, viral marketing at its slyest. Play on people's emotions with content, shooting and editing techniques that generate "BUZZ" enough for everyone to want to forward to others; do not mention a product or a company at all whatsoever; then have your PR department put out a seemingly plausible, apologetic, "caring" and "come clean" article all the while building the story so that the company and the product are zero'd in on. Voila! The publishing and story behind the circulation of a video with no product and no company name concludes the circle of the campaign itself...
This makes me finally realize how much I love our education system. And I love the all caps typing even more. Caps are meant for exclamations! When will the world get it right?

actually, there was a "reveal" posted on you tube as well... they actually took apart an old microwave and put the part under the table... it popped the corn just as it would have done if the kernels were in the microwave. Silly if you ask me.
TRUE! cell phones, when kept to your head for extended periods of time ,WILL cause bodily tissue damage. Just ask Attorney Johnny Cochrans doctor. The infamous lawyer died from cell phone radiation overdose. It put a tumor on his brain, which killed him. The new HD televisions also fall into this category, according to Consumer Reports of Yonkers, N.Y..These HD'S have been proven to cause cancer in humans and animals. Just put in emr into your search for more info, plus fourwinds10.com.
It was light and entertaining. I needed that! Everybody is so f'in serious!
I think global warming caused the popcorn to pop. lol
