Sony's Uber-Cute Rolly Coming Soon

One of the stranger sights at CES this year: Sony's newest musical "companion," the spinning, twirling, singing, and flapping Rolly—so small and cute, it's scary.

You may remember that the Rolly made a splash when it hit stores in Japan last fall, and now Sony's announced that the little guy is set to conquer the cute-prone here in the States. I finally had chance to spend a little quality time with the Rolly, and I must say...it's relentlessly cute. Maybe a litle too much for me.

Looking like a little barrel with flapping ears and flashing lights, the Rolly boasts 2GB of internal memory, Bluetooth for streaming music from your PC, and the ability to learn and memorize some eyebrow-raising dance moves. A Sony rep had a pair of Rollys on hand, and she revved them both up at once for a little synchronized dance-a-thon to crazed techno music. The spinning and flapping and dancing is, well, certainly something to see. (Check out this video from the Washington Post for a full dose of cuteness.) Whether you have the stamina for the Rolly's tireless routines depends on your tolerance for, how shall I put this...extreme cuteness.

No details yet on exactly when the Rolly will debut here in the United States (it will be sometime this year) or for how much, although the Post reports that it could retail in the somewhat pricey $500 range.
