Now this is cool. If you're heading for the great outdoors and you can't bear the thought of no satellite television, the DirecTV Sat-Go—an all-in-one briefcase that includes an LCD TV, a DirecTV tuner and an integrated antenna—just might be the answer.
The Sat-Go ($1,500) comes with everything you'll need to get your satellite TV while you're on the go, including a 17-inch LCD (capable of displaying a 720p image), an integrated DirecTV receiver, a flat antenna that's built into the lid of the briefcase, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Just get yourself under the clear blue sky, open the case and use the included compass to locate a signal; the reviewer at
DBSTalk.com said he managed to get a picture within about five minutes. Pretty cool, right? Of course, the case itself weighs about 26 pounds, so you probably won't want to take it on that rappelling trip. Also, DBSTalk only got about an hour of juice from that rechargeable battery; luckily, additional batteries should be available soon for about $80 each, or you can plug the Sat-Go into a portable generator with the included power adapter.
