Search the Web for "red ring of death" and you'll literally find hundreds of sob stories, all from Xbox 360 owners lamenting the respective crashes of their beloved gaming consoles. I'd seen plenty of these cautionary tales myself, but somehow, I thought my six-month-old 360 was immune; those telltale red lights around the power button—which warn of a general hardware failure, and an almost certain trip for your console back to Microsoft HQ for repair—weren't going to happen to me. And then, late last week, they did. Here's my story.

WHT IS THE RING OF DEATH.
The "Red Ring Of Death" is just that: a ring of red light that appears around your (normally green) power button, and lets you know that your 360 has a problem of some kind, no you can't fix it, and you need to send it away in a neat little box for 2 - 18 weeks to get fixed, and, oh yes, you are hosed.
I went through 3 xbox 360 in less then one year I should be getting my 360 back in May 22,2007 My first 360 I bought in 6/4/06 all had the 3 red rings of death but one, the dvd tray got stuck and MS never sent me an xbox 360 elite to play my games while I wait for my 360 to come back from McAllen Texas. How did you score on haveing an elite while waiting for yours to come back from McAllen Texas?
I to have had Red Ring took them about 3 weeks to repair but when i got red ring it also wasted my game that was in the console at the time they told me tough luck on the game I lost I had a regular xbox before and now regreting getting xbox 360 if it goes down again after my warranty period I will be done with MS.
my 360s been sent to microsoft 3 times now this is not a coincidence But the 360 dominates game wise and I could not cope With a PS3s shoddy controller and very limited and similar games to the 360 and xbox live is sooo great. I also have a wii so I am cornered with the 360 if microsoft sorts out the reliability they can save thousands of customers and have the best machine.
I have been attempting to get my xbox repaired for some time. Customer service is a joke. One excuse was that my UPS person was hurt. I'm freaking out! I would have never betted that Microsoft was sleazy. This has been going on from May 2007 to July 2007. Let me clarify that I have yet to receive a shipping box to send off console.
Fixing of the problem is easy.... grab the free guide from here and you don't need to send it back to Microsoft. http://www.squidoo.com/redringsofdeath/
Ring O' Death is the worst thing EVER!!! and its happened to me not once but TWICE! im starting to get fed up with this. All you FEEL MY PAIN!!!
RRoD got me just Sunday evening. I put a ticket into MS as well and my empty box should be here soon...though the month without COD4 is gonna hurt. The box came back from the dead yesterday afternoon and I've left the power on since then and even managed to get in a game or three...but i'll be sending it out as soon as the box gets here. Better safe than sorry. I recommend anyone buying the 360 to look for a manufacture date after 10/15/2007, they're using the new 'Falcon' processors, look it up on the web. Also, buy from Target and get the $29 warranty plan. If they can't repair it you get a gift card in the amount of your original purchase which you can use to replace your broken machine.
No kidding, my PS 2 runs fine. Man, was really want the set "Rockband" and getting XBox 360 is the cheapest option. After this article, you know what, forget both consoles, I am going back to arcade and play Guitar Freaks and Drummania by Konami.
Mine broke down in October, and I got it back around Middle November. It was a pain, but I am happy I have it.
Y'all should just get the PS3 and not worry anymore.
The ring of death just tells you that there is a general hardware breakdown
Here is my ? on the RRoD why is it that all console's that do not utilize the network connection has never received the RRoD sounds to me its a update that has gone wrong for most popular new released games or a rogue code sent by xconnect that lets u tunnel to xbox live from a pc..HUMMM has anyone tried to check the EPROM with a jtag...
Same freakin' thing happens to me after downloading the GH2 patch. Bought it that day, downloaded the patch and FREEEEZE!! ARRGGGHHH!!
the red ring of death is repairable by doing it yourself due to a system error just unplug and replug the harddrive it works
My roommate has had 5 RRoD. lol. But he has a Best Buy warranty and gets every one of them fixed for 20 bucks. The best part is, when it's broke he just takes it to them, they take the old one, and give him a new one right then and there. They just switch out the hard drives. Granted, the warranty was $150 to begin with, but still. If you got the money for the warranty, no waiting.
the red ring of death is equivalent to a bricked psp. the system will turn on but will not function. it basically screws up the entire system
I'm very lucky because i was going to buy a Xbox 360 but i got a psp instead. Most of my buddies got the Red Ring of Death. One of my friends had his xbox 360 for 3 years+! My psp doesn't end up like that. Now i'll skip the xbox section at places and i'll buy a product from Nintendo and Playstation! But i still wonder how this RROD happenned first!
