TiVo Searching Gets a Boost

Still looking for more shows to record on your trusty TiVo? Then check out Swivel Search, a new feature for Series2 and Series3 TiVo boxes that will help you pinpoint even more programs based on your favorite actors, topics and shows.

Swivel Search will look pretty familiar to anyone who's used Web-based services like Netflix, but this is the first time I've seen it on a DVR. It works like this: if you're watching, let's say, "24," and you just love that guy who plays Bill Buchanan (that would be James Morrison), you can navigate to "Universal Swivel Search" in the TiVo menu and find all the upcoming shows he's starring in (as well as any movie hits from Amazon Unbox on TiVo). You can also find other shows that share the same tag (very Flickr-like) and see recommendations based on a particular show. Swivel Search is rolling out now to all Series2 and 3 boxes, according to TiVo, and you can also fill in a "priority request" form if you're especially anxious to try it out.
