The iPhone software development kit—well, a beta version, at least—has finally made its debut, and Apple market the occasion by showing off some early applications, including an iPhone-ized version of EA's Spore, AOL Instant Messenger, and some business-minded apps. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until June to start installing.
Â
Something tells me that developers aren't going to be all that thrilled with Apple terms—30 percent is a pretty hefty take, and we're still waiting for word on what kind of approval process Apple will have for iPhone apps.
That said, the news looks great for iPhone and iPod Touch owners. From what I've seen of the games, at least, they look pretty slick—much better than what you'll find on the average cell phone—and reps in Cupertino were crowing that the iPhone can handle "console"-level games.Â
Meanwhile, the new SDK shows promise for business users as well. Salesforce.com showed off a contact-, task-, and event-management iPhone app, while we also saw a program to help doctors track patients and prescriptions.
So, what do you think—ready to start downloading some programs for your iPhone? What kind of apps do you want to see, and how much are you willing to spend? [Thanks for the photo, Engadget!]

Everything about the iPhone is GREAT except one thing: The memory capacity seems ridiculously inadequate! I've got an iPod and a Treo755P. As soon as they get serious about the memory storage in the iPhone, I'm in!
How about letting iphone users get multimedia texts and send pictures in texts!
Finally Im so glad these new Apps are coming to the iPhone. The best thing to me is AIM I got so many Buddies and not always near a computer so this is great!!!!!!!!!!
Someone needs to start a petition against Apple against charging iPod touch owners for this June update, but not the iPhone owners. It's lame. It should be free for everyone or cost the same amount of money for iPod touch and iPhone owners!
I am totally with you allularmilo! Why do the touch owners have to pay when the phone owners do not? Its not my fault that Apple decided to go with at&t and in my area they are the worst phone service! I think Apple should be available on all the phone carriers, not just at&t!
word im wit lava5000 b/c i need multimedia texts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
themes and games....i dont care for the microsoft garbage
Is the iPhone ever going to be able to send and receive picture sms's?
I want video recording, audio recording, and SMS that can be sent with a file. I CANNOT believe the current iPhone does not have these apps. I would pay $50 for each app.
I would like to see apple become an orange
Will this new free update - iPhone2.0 has GPS ?
All I really need is the app "Tok Tok". Only for y N95 8gb.
How about cut/paste functionality? Picture mail and text messaging needs work! Yes--AT&T is the worst! Overall, pretty pleased with the phone. Internet better than my old Treo w/Sprint.
Ok What About This If You Bought The iPod Touch Jan Upgrade For The 5 Extra Apps Do You Still Have To Pay For 1 New App "The App Store"? Anyways It Is Not Cool That We Have To Pay & iPhoners Don't Thats Like Favortism!Jk
i would like to see a mobile attachment to stream video, somthing like a plug in attachment to make the iphone a mini movie camera.it would be the smallest on the market and a great application.just plug it onto the docking port and the devise turns the iphone into a mini movie camera.that would be sooo coollets waita and see. steve.
I want to be able to delete multiple emails at once, and I'd like the ability to save photos that are emailed to me. Although most folks like to use their finger, I would prefer a stylus (for some apps).
