Since I first laid eyes on it at CTIA in March, the Helio Ocean has stood out as the clear pretender to the messaging-phone throne—which, to my mind, has been owned by the Sidekick (both II and 3) for a few years now. Despite its aging features, the Sidekick 3 has had a couple of aces up its sleeve: a killer, easy-to-use interface, its swiveling screen and that roomy QWERTY keypad. But with its two-way sliding design—one way for numeric keys, the other for a full keyboard—plus its state-of-the-art data, messaging and multimedia features, the Ocean represents the Sidekick's strongest challenger to date.

question...can you use this phone if you have t-mobile contract.. does helio even use a sim card. if it does ill purchase the phone right now.
I've had my ocean for over a week and I LOVE IT! I have owned the sidekick 2 and was not impressed by the sidekick 3 but the ocean kicks a&%. I love being able to surf the web wherever without a bunch of restrictions. Also, streaming video is great. If you don't want to pay extra for video Helio has a TON of content that is free. It's nice for whn you want to show off (Oh, I'm just watching The Daily Show on my Helio). My fav feature? The beautiful screen!!! Easily the biggest, brightest, and most colorful screen on a cell phone. I checked out the Sidekick 3 and it's screen is washed out...almost gray! This is a phone that turns heads. Glad I'm the first person I know with it!
Can you get the Helio Ocean with Verizon as your service carrier?
Next time all you nay sayers post something, look at your bill and check how much your current service provider is nickel and diming(power vision, texting, data transfer, ETC) you. The Ocean is a cool phone easy to use phone with even easier to use features. If you think its too expensive, get on a crappy plan and get your free phone. We DO NOT need these things so why complain how much it cost? BTW jaylendosoto its $300.00.
----- rachel from dmg sidekick 3
The iPhone will cru----- .
how much is it
I still think sidekick wins, it has a pre paid option for those who cant afford or are qualifed for a contract, even if you had a contract with t mobile its cheaper than helios pricey copntract at 60 something a month for not very much. plus the oceans design is all wrong all helios designs are wroong. their phones all look like they have been put togtether all wrong.lol. like a badly put together flip phone.
I want this phone so thank you for the info about this phone I am going to buy this phone as soon as my contract with Nextel is over.
i really want to get an ocean, but my parents probably won't let me get one. i'm moving to south korea in august because my dad's gonna become the vice president of the boston scientific in south korea (what about my friends T_T), so i wonder if they're cheaper there....
Let's see. I often have text messages not received at all or delayed several hours. Calls are constantly dropped ( I live 15 mins east of DC, come on) Member support is horrible. I've sent a total of 5 emails that were never replied too, only to have to send a 2nd one each time to have a response. The last time I sent 2 of the same email and no response. I went to cancel my membership and was on hold for 15 mins, I hung up and called and selected the option to buy a phone, and in less than 10 secs the phone was answered. I loved the features of the Drift, but service and support were horrible.
I'll stick to the Sidekick 3!!!
helio phones are garbage
I would like to get this, but it would cost everybody else (most of friends carry Verizon) for me to send them text message. Plus, I don't think Helio carries in my area.
ive had 3 helios and they all broke within a month
What a totally useless thing. Doesn't anyone make a phone that allows you to make and receive telephone calls and NOTHING ELSE? I have a camera if I want a picture, I have a memory so why do I need an "organizer"? I *know* where I am, what use is a GPS feature? If I can make and receive calls what use is text messaging? Completely useless stuff that I won't pay for.
Who is the phone service through? I could find that in the article. Otherwise I love the phone, and would totally buy it.
Are you people crazy? This reviewer can barley spell and punctuate...probably thanks to "txt"-ing and all the other technical wizardry and gadgets on a PHONE. Remember people, it's a PHONE. The art of person-to-person communication is slowly dying thanks to -of all things- greedy telecommunications companies becoming filthy rich because you people play right into their hands. Get a life you cell-phonies.
thats beautiful...i soo need to get a job for this new tech...mama coing to get you...lol
