Want the local forecast read to you by your favorite TV weatherman, no matter where you are? Well, now you can watch "weather with Ron" (or whoever floats your boat) right on your Verizon Wireless phone, courtesy of a new on-demand video channel.

The aptly named My Local TV News channel is available now on any V Cast-capable (i.e., 3G) Verizon handset; just browse to the channel, select your U.S. region and/or city, and you'll find a series of on-demand video clips from your favorite local TV news station.

Sounds cool, but so far, only about 80 local TV stations are signed up with the service—a pretty tiny number, considering the more than 1,600 local TV stations in the States.

That said, Verizon promises that those 80 stations cover about 70 percent of U.S. markets, so you should be able to find at least a couple of familiar faces on the My Local TV News channel.

The other question, of course, is how often local TV news clips are updated. I'd hope that new clips would arrive at least on a daily basis—but if they're only refreshed every week or so, well...that's not news, now, is it?

What do you think—itching to watch your local news on your phone? Or are you fine with CNN to Go?
