The smoke surrounding the long-anticipated iPhone 2.0—this time with 3G—is finally starting to clear. Here’s a cheat sheet on the latest rumors.

When, where, and for how much: According to TG Daily and its network of spies, the new iPhone will probably launch this June during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. TG Daily’s sources claim there will be an 8GB version for $399, a 16GB model for $499, and maybe even a 32GB handset for $599 (although TG Daily seems less certain about the 32GB model).

Slim and trim: The TG Daily story goes on to say that the new iPhone will be a bit thinner than its predecessor—about 2.5 mm thinner, to be exact—and will shed some of the “plasticky” elements of the first phone’s shell (vague, I know, but that’s the word). Also, the battery will likely still be sealed in the iPhone case, according to TG Daily.

GPS, stereo Bluetooth: Some enterprising hackers have been poking around leaked betas of the upcoming iPhone 2.0 firmware, and they’ve found some interesting nuggets of info. Among them: indications that the 3G iPhone will support full-on GPS, along with support for stereo Bluetooth headsets.

New chipset: Also found in the code for the new iPhone firmware: hints of an updated Infineon chipset that supports 3G (well, yeah), a five-megapixel camera (up from two megapixels on the original iPhone), and the DVB-H mobile video standard (more popular in Europe than here in the States, so I wouldn’t get too excited about that one). Engadget Mobile notes that the new processor would have the same speed as its predecessor, and that just because the new chipset supports features like a 5MP camera doesn't mean the new iPhone will actually get them.

Screen captures, image saving on Safari: Yet another gem from the leaked iPhone firmware, this time pointing to a mobile Safari feature that would let you take screen captures of Web pages and save individual images from a given page. According to iPhone Buzz, it would work like this: You’d touch and hold the image you want to save, and then you’d get a dialog asking whether you want to save the image or visit its URL. If you want to save, the image would get stored in a photo album on the iPhone.

Anyway, that’s the latest—and keep in mind that these are all rumors, folks. I’m sure more details will surface as we get closer to June.

So, what do you think? Any features you’re craving that aren’t listed here? What do you think about the pricing rumors? Fire away!

I was hugely dissappointed to find out that the iphone doesn't support a wallet feature inside the phone, blackberry have it, so do nokia and sony ericsson, it is one of the key features that i look for in a handset, in case some are wondering exactly what the wallet feature is, within the phone it is a password or pin protected file in which you can keep your pin numbers, account numbers and other passwords, basically private information, I phoned apple and asked them and they said the only thing they have at the moment is the key lock feature on the phone which is unlocked via a pin number, which you can set to automatically lock every minute, this would mean i would have to type my pin in everytime i want to use the phone which is a pain, like the other phones in the market, apple really needs to add this feature in the iphone, it is a big selling point for me personally and i would of thought for some others out there.

As a percentage, rate the validity/accuracy of these rumors? i.e. price-85% sure. As with the nature of any rumor, we must keep in mind it is just that, rumors. Apple blows...until June!!!

iPhone is pretty, but not as useful as some Windows based offerings. Why doesn't Apple take on Microsoft, as that is who their whole marketing campaign targets. Since PC is really "personal computer", are they saying a Mac isn't a personal computer? Seems a little contrary, as the physical elements of any PC are virtually the same. It's the OS that really drives any difference. Anyway, anything the iPhone can do, my Mogul does too...and now, not somewhere in the future.

Why do you all think 3G is great? Let me give you some info on 3G at least here in Austin, Texas. AT&T is still have trouble with having your phone switching from Edge to 3G causing you to drop a call during the switch. And it has zero improvement in speed with WAP browsing on my LG CU500 and I have the unlimited data package and videos and photos display just as fast when I am on Edge or 3G.

The reason why the iphone does not support 3g is because if you trow in a 3g in the iphone then it would not have the best battery that they have out. The iphone has the best battery life up to 8 hours of talk time, 24 hours of songs it is the best battery. If you put in a 3g it would not have the best battery life that the iphone has right now. By the way its been tested that wi-fi seems to be faster thatn 3g.
