Like your speakers small—and I mean, really small? Then Sony has a new, micro-sized home-theater-in-a-box with your name on it.
The
DAV-IS10 (doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it?) comes with your typical DVD/CD/receiver combo, along with a big, honking subwoofer. What's so cool about this system, however, are the itty, bitty satellite speakers—small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The five, 50-watt speakers will probably please anyone who doesn't want big black boxes littering the living room, but personally, I'd really want to hear the system in action before plunking down $800 for the kit.
Besides the speakers, the DAV-IS10's specs sound solid enough: you get an HDMI output for an HDTV set, and the built-in DVD player will upscale movies to 720p or 1080i over the HDMI connection. Sony's also included an auto-calibration tool that handles surround-sound settings in a snap, plus the proprietary Digital Media Port, which lets you attach various Sony-made accessories (such as a Wi-Fi antenna for streaming your PC-based music, pictures and movies). Look for the DAV-IS10 to arrive in stores sometime in July.
